Asticou Azalea Garden
The Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine, United States, is a popular visitor attraction. It was created by lifelong resident of the village, Charles Kenneth Savage, in 1956. Much of the initial plant collection originated at Reef Point Estate in nearby Bar Harbor, the summer residence of renowned landscape architect Beatrix Farrand. The collection was moved with the financial assistance of John D. Rockefeller Jr., including the weeping hemlock, just north of the main bridge. Located at the intersection of Route 198 and Route 3 (Peabody Drive), the garden and its pond are open to the public during daylight hours from May 1 to October 31. It features a selection of rhododendrons and azaleas, including the '' Rhododendron canadense'', Maine's native azalea. Styled after a Japanese stroll garden, the fine- gravel paths are raked regularly in a manner that suggests flowing water. Maine State Route 198
State Route 198 (SR 198) is a state highway on Mount Desert Island, Hancock County, Maine. It goes from the village of Northeast Harbor within the town of Mount Desert to State Routes 3 and 102 in Bar Harbor. The route passes near the Gulf of Maine and through Acadia National Park. Route description SR 198 begins in the village of Northeast Harbor. It heads northward and has a concurrency with SR 3 from Northeast Harbor and intersects SR 233. Near Somesville, SR 3 ends but SR 198 turns north along the route of SR 102. SR 198 and SR 102 run together for and enter Bar Harbor. Both routes have their northern end at SR 3. Asticou Inn
The Asticou Inn is an inn in Northeast Harbor, Maine. It was built in 1883. In 1899, it was destroyed by fire and rebuilt over the course of two years. The rear of the building overlooks the Northeast Harbor inlet, which opens out to the Atlantic Ocean. The inn has been owned by the Asti-Kim Corporation since 1965 and, between 2015 and 2019, was managed by the Acadia Corporation. Tim Harrington's Kennebunkport Resort Collection became the current managers of the inn in 2023. There are 48 guest rooms: 31 in the main inn, plus 17 in six adjacent buildings: Cranberry Lodge, Blue Spruce, Bird Bank, and three "Topsiders". The inn closes for the seven months between Columbus Day (late October) and Memorial Day (late May).
