The Swedish football league system currently has ten levels, with the first five being governed by the Swedish Football Association. Assyriska FF
Assyriska Fotbollsföreningen, also known simply as Assyriska FF, is a Swedish football club based in Södertälje, Stockholm County. The club, formed in 1974 by Assyrian immigrants, has advanced through the league system and is currently playing in the fourth highest Swedish league, Division 2. They played in the highest Swedish football league Allsvenskan in 2005 where their games were broadcast in over 80 countries. The club has also played a final in Svenska Cupen, which was lost against IF Elfsborg in 2003. Assyriska is often viewed as a substitute national team by the Assyrian people. The club has a fan base from all over the world and has also their own pop song which is called "My Assyrian team – the team of my dream". A documentary film about Assyriska called "Assyriska: A National Team Without A Nation" was also made in 2006 by Nuri Kino and Erik Sandberg. Assyriska BK is a Swedish football club based in Västra Frölunda, Gothenburg. The club was formed in 1985 by Assyrian immigrants and is currently playing in Division 2 Västra Götaland which is the fourth tier of Swedish football. They play their home matches at Ruddalens IP in Västra Frölunda. Assyriska BK are affiliated to the Göteborgs Fotbollförbund. History The Assyrians who had settled in Gothenburg formed in 1976 the football club Göteborgs Assyriska Idrottsförening (GAIF) that was attached to the Assyriska Mesopotamiska Association in Gothenburg. After a couple years of football experience they formed in 1985 Assyriska BK (ABK) as a sports division of the Assyriska Mesopotamiska Association in Gothenburg. Assyriska Föreningen i Norrköping, abbreviated Assyriska IF, was a Swedish football club located in Norrköping. They merged with IK Derik and Azech SF to form ADAS United in 2021. Background Assyriska IF were founded in 1977 to serve the Assyrian community in Norrköping. Today there are players, officials and supporters of several different nationalities, not just the Assyrians. Since their foundation Assyriska IF has participated mainly in the middle and lower divisions of the Swedish football league system. Assyriska United IK
Nordic United FC is a Swedish football club located in Södertälje. Background Assyriska Botkyrka FF was founded in 2011 after the shut down of Assyriska FF's reserve team Assyriska FF Ungdom (founded 2008), which was done to many other reserve teams in Sweden, due to changes in loan rules for young players in the country. Before 2008 the club was known as Assyriska Rinkeby IF. Changes in identity have been the norm in recent years with the club being known as Rinkeby AIF up to 2006. Assyriska Botkyrka FF, just as Assyriska FF Ungdom did, cooperated with Assyriska Föreningen. Since their foundation they have participated in the middle divisions of the Swedish football league system. In 2013 the club changed its name to Assyriska United IK and relocated to Södertälje. Assyriska IK, also known as Assyriska Turabdin IK, is a Swedish football club based in Jönköping. The club was formed in 2009 by Assyrian immigrants from the Tur Abdin region in Turkey, and is currently playing in Division 1 Södra which is the third tier of Swedish football. Swedish Football Division 2
Division 2 is the fourth level in the league system of Swedish football and comprises 84 Swedish football teams. Division 2 had status as the official second level from 1928 to 1986 but was replaced by Division 1 in 1987. It then had status as the official third level until 2005 but was replaced once again by the recreated Division 1 in 2006. Overview In the Division, there are 84 clubs which are divided in six groups of 14 teams each representing a geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 26 games. Syrianska Football Club, also known as Syrianska FC or simply Syrianska, is a Swedish professional football club based in Södertälje in Stockholm County. The club was founded by Syriac-Aramean immigrants in 1977 as Suryoyo Sportklubb, or Suryoyo SK. In 1986, its name was changed to Syrianska SK. The club adopted its present name as it grew and advanced through the league system. In 2010, after two years in Superettan, Syrianska was promoted to Allsvenskan (the highest tier in Swedish football) for the first time in club history. This made Syrianska FC the 61st team to play in Allsvenskan. Since the Syriac people do not have an official national team, Syrianska is often seen as a substitute.
