Assimba Democratic Party
The Assimba Democratic Party ( ti, ዓሲምባ ዴሞክራሲያዊ ፖርቲ, ADP) is an opposition party in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. Creation The Assimba Democratic Party was created in October 2019 and officially registered with the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE). Asgedom was one of the founding members. Name '' Borkena'' suggested that the name ''Assimba'' represents nostalgia for the location in the Tigray Region of a former military training ground used in the late 1970s by the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Party. Policies At its creation in October 2019, Asgedom stated that the status of the Eritrean–Ethiopian border, negotiated in the Algiers Agreement in 2000, was a concern for the Assimba Democratic Party and that the status of Welkait and Raya Azebo was also a priority. ''Addis Standard'' is an Ethiopian monthly social, economic and politics, political news magazine publishing, published and distributed by Jakenn Publishing Plc, and was established in February 2011 by Tsedale Lemma. 2020 Tigray Regional Election
On 9 September 2020, the Ethiopian region of Tigray held an election for its state council. The election was considered illegal by the federal government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who postponed the 2020 general election earlier in the year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the election organisers, the Tigray People's Liberation Front won 98.2% of the vote and 100% of the 152 seats that were contested. Electoral environment France 24 reported aging war veterans and university students formed long lines to partake in the elections. 600 candidates from five parties competed for 152 seats in the 190 seat legislature. Irob (woreda)
Irob () is a district or ''woreda'' in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. This woreda is named after the Irob people, who are the predominant ethnic group living there. Located in the Misraqawi Zone at the eastern escarpment of the Ethiopian highlands, Irob is bordered on the south by Saesi Tsaedaemba, on the west by Gulomahda, on the north and east by the Endelli River which separates it from Eritrea, and on the southeast by the Afar Region. Tigray People's Liberation Front
The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF; ti, ህዝባዊ ወያነ ሓርነት ትግራይ, lit=Popular Struggle for the Freedom of Tigray), also called the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, is a left-wing ethnic nationalist paramilitary group, a banned political party, and the former ruling party of Ethiopia. Raya Azebo (simply known as Raya; is a district in the Amhara of Ethiopia. Located at the eastern edge of the Ethiopian highlands, the administrative center of this district is Mekoni. Irob People
The Irob people ( Ge'ez: ኢሮብ ''ʾirōb'', also spelled Erob) are an ethnic group who live in a predominantly highland, mountainous area by the same name in northeastern Tigray Region, Ethiopia. They speak the Saho language. Most of them profess the catholic Christian religion and are mostly farmers. The etymology of the name Irob is debatable, but Irob's elders say that the term comes from the Saho word "Oroba", which means "welcome to our home". Welkait
Welkait (also spelled Wolkait or Wolqayt; is a woreda which was historically part of the northern Amhara region of Gonder in Ethiopia. Following the fall of the communist Derg regime and ascension to power of the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF), the region was unilaterally annexed into the Tigray Region in Ethiopia by the TPLF. It is believed this annexation was for geopolitical purposes with the primary goal of obtaining a direct border with Sudan. The TPLF also annexed areas from the other regions in the country for similar purposes. Efforts to integrate Welkait into Tigray were widespread and systematic, including the expulsion and intimidation of the majority Amhara population and the re-naming of cities, rivers, lakes, mountains, springs, etc from their original Amharic to Tigrigna. Algiers Agreement (2000)
The Algiers Agreement was a peace agreement between the governments of Eritrea and Ethiopia that was signed on 12 December 2000, at Algiers, Algeria, to formally end the Eritrean–Ethiopian War, a border war fought by the two countries from 1998 to 2000. In the agreement, the two parties reaffirmed the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities, which had been signed on 18 June 2000. The Algiers Agreement provided for the exchange of prisoners and the return of displaced persons and established a Boundary Commission to demarcate the border and a Claims Commission to assess damages caused by the conflict.
