Assault (film)
''Assault'' is a 1971 British thriller film directed by Sidney Hayers and starring Suzy Kendall, Frank Finlay, Freddie Jones, and Lesley-Anne Down; David Essex also has a small role. It is based on the 1962 novel ''The Ravine'' by Kendal Young, and tells about a police attempt to track down a dangerous rapist/killer on the loose. In the U.S., it was retitled ''In the Devil's Garden''. Premise After a schoolgirl is raped on her way home from school, police move in to investigate the case. Sidney Hayers
Sidney Hayers (24 August 1921 – 8 February 2000) was a British film and television director, writer and producer. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Hayers began his career as a film editor. Among the films he directed are ''Circus of Horrors'' (1960), the occult thriller ''Night of the Eagle'' (1962), a musical ''Three Hats for Lisa'' (1965), and the adventure films '' The Southern Star'' (1969) and '' The Trap'' (1966). In British TV, his credits included ''The Persuaders!'' and '' The New Avengers''; he later directed several American TV shows, including episodes of ''Magnum, P.I.'', ''The A-Team'', ''Knight Rider'', ''T. J. Hooker'', ''Baywatch'' and ''The Famous Five''. Hayers died of cancer in 2000 in Altea, Spain. His wife was the actress Erika Remberg. Marianne Stone
Marianne Stone (23 August 1922 – 21 December 2009) was an English character actress. She performed in films from the early 1940s to the late 1980s, typically playing working class parts such as barmaids, secretaries and landladies. Stone appeared in nine of the ''Carry On'' films, and took part in an episode of the ''Carry On Laughing'' television series ("The Case of the Screaming Winkles"). She also had supporting roles with comedian Norman Wisdom. William Hoyland (10 November 1943 – 15 July 2017) was an English actor whose career spanned fifty years. He appeared in several British television series. Career After a Quaker education at Leighton Park in Reading, Hoyland started out in a short film titled ''You're Human Like The Rest of Them'' in 1967. Tom Chatto (born Thomas Chatto St George Sproule; 1 September 1920 – 8 August 1982) was an English actor who made numerous appearances on television, film, and stage between 1957 and his death in 1982. Early life and career Chatto is a great-grandson of Andrew Chatto (1840–1913) the founder of the publishers Chatto and Windus. According to a London Palladium souvenir brochure from a 1970 production of ''Aladdin'', he was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. During the war he was commissioned in the Indian Army.
