Asma Al-Rayyan
Sheikha Asma Al-Rayyan, also known as Asma Rayan and Asma Arian, is a German-Qatari human rights advocate and a member of the extended Qatari royal family. She is the wife of Sheikh Talal bin Abdelaziz bin Ahmed Al-Thani, a son of the former Crown Prince Abdelaziz bin Ahmed Al Thani. Since her husband, and nineteen other members of the Qatari royal family, were arrested in 2013 for opposing the diplomatic and economic policies of Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Al-Rayyan has been an outspoken critic of the Emir and his government. Left impoverished after her husband was stripped of his inheritance and his assets were frozen, she took her children to Germany, where she is a citizen. The United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) was a functional commission within the overall framework of the United Nations from 1946 until it was replaced by the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2006. Qatari Muslims
Qatar is a Muslim-majority country with Islam as the state religion. Salafi version of Islam is the state sponsored brand of Sunni Islam in the country, making Qatar one of the two Salafi states in the Muslim world, along with Saudi Arabia. The local population, made up of Qataris, are all Muslims although there are high numbers of foreign workers in Qatar which varies the Muslim population. According to the CIA ''World Factbook'', as of 2010 an estimated 67.7% of the population is Muslim, while 13.8% is Christian, another 13.8% Hindu, and 3.1% Buddhist. Islam's significance in Germany has largely increased after the labour migration in the 1960s and several waves of political refugees since the 1970s. According to a representative survey, it is estimated that in 2019, there were 5.3–5.6 million Muslims with a migrant background in Germany (6.4–6.7% of the population), in addition to an unknown number of Muslims without a migrant background. A similar survey in 2016 estimated a number of 4.4–4.7 million Muslims with a migrant background (5.4–5.7% of the population) at that time.
