Aslam Riaz Hussain
Aslam Riaz Hussain ( 10 March 2004) was a former Pakistani jurist and the first ombudsman who served as 28th chief justice of the Lahore High Court from 1976 to 1978, and 19th governor of Punjab from July 1977 to September 1978. In 1978, he was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Biography He was born to Tasaddaq Husain who was a poet and an assistant advocate-general of the Punjab Province. His mother, Begum Salma Tasaddaq Husain was a political activist and one of the two women who was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly on the ticket of All-India Muslim League in 1946 Indian provincial elections. He received his education from Central Model School and later went to Government College, Lahore. As a classmate of justice Javed Iqbal, he met Muhammad Iqbal several times. Operation Fair Play
Operation Fair Play was the code name for the 5 July 1977 coup by Pakistan Chief of Army Staff General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, overthrowing the government of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The coup itself was bloodless, and was preceded by social unrest and political conflict between the ruling leftist Pakistan Peoples Party government of Bhutto, and the right-wing Islamist opposition Pakistan National Alliance which accused Bhutto of rigging the 1977 general elections. In announcing the coup, Zia promised "free and fair elections" within 90 days, but these were repeatedly postponed on the excuse of accountability and it was not until 1985 that ("party-less") general elections were held. Zia himself stayed in power for 11 years until his death in a plane crash. The coup was a watershed event in the Cold War and in the history of the country. The High Court of West Pakistan was the high court for the province of West Pakistan during the days of one unit from 1956 to 1971 until the separation of East Pakistan. History On 30 September 1955 the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan passed the Establishment of West Pakistan Act, 1955.
