Aslak Versto
Aslak Versto (born 20 December 1924 in Vinje, died 25 November 1992) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He was the son of former MP Olav Aslakson Versto. Aslak Versto was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Telemark in 1969, and was re-elected on one occasion. He had previously served as a deputy representative during the terms 1961–1965 and 1965–1969. On the local level he was a member of the executive committee of Vinje municipality council from 1947 to 1951. He later served as mayor from 1959 to 1971 and 1979 to 1987. He was also a member of Telemark county council. He chaired the municipal party chapter from 1952 to 1957 and the county party chapter from 1968 to 1969. Outside politics he worked as a farmer. Vinje
Vinje is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional regions of Upper Telemark and Vest-Telemark. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Åmot. General information Name The municipality of Vinje (originally a parish) is named after the old ''Vinje'' farm (Old Norse: ''Vinjar''), since the first church was built there. The name is the plural form of ''vin'' which means "meadow" or "pasture". See also Vinje, Sør-Trøndelag. Coat-of-arms The coat-of-arms is from modern times. They were granted on 16 November 1990. The Storting ( no, Stortinget ) (lit. the Great Thing) is the supreme legislature of Norway, established in 1814 by the Constitution of Norway. It is located in Oslo. The unicameral parliament has 169 members and is elected every four years based on party-list proportional representation in nineteen multi-seat constituencies. A member of Stortinget is known in Norwegian as a ''stortingsrepresentant'', literally "Storting representative". Telemark
Telemark is a traditional region, a former county, and a current electoral district in southern Norway. In 2020, Telemark merged with the former county of Vestfold to form the county of Vestfold og Telemark. Telemark borders the traditional regions and former counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Hordaland, Rogaland and Aust-Agder. The name ''Telemark'' means the "mark of the Thelir", the ancient North Germanic tribe that inhabited what is now known as Upper Telemark in the Migration Period and the Viking Age. In the Middle Ages, the agricultural society of Upper Telemark was considered the most violent region of Norway. Today, half of the buildings from medieval times in Norway are located here. Olav Versto
Olav Versto (31 July 1950 – 7 July 2011) was a Norwegian journalist and editor, primarily known for his work for the newspaper ''Verdens Gang''. Education and career Versto received a cand.mag. degree from the University of Oslo in 1976. He started his career in the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation in 1977, and was hired as a subeditor of ''Verdens Gang'', Norway's largest newspaper, in 1987. From 1994 to 2008 he was the political editor of ''Verdens Gang''. After that he became the editor of the op-ed section of the newspaper. Olav Versto hailed from Vinje, and was the grandson of Olav Aslakson Versto and son of Aslak Versto, both politicians. He was himself politically involved, and was a forceful activist for the failed campaign for Norwegian European Union membership in 1994. Astrid Versto
Astrid Versto (born 3 August 1953) is a Norwegian journalist and diplomat. She was born in Vinje and took her education at the Oslo University College, Norwegian Journalist College. After a journalistic career she was hired as director of communications in Norad (Norway), Norad in 2000, moving on to director of personnel in 2004. From 2005 to 2008 she was the director of communications at the Royal Palace, Oslo, in other words the Norwegian royal family, Norwegian royal couple. She embarked on a diplomatic career as counsellor at the Norwegian embassy in Austria from 2008 to 2012, director of communications in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2015 and Norwegian ambassador to Croatia from 2015.
