Reubin Askew
Reubin O'Donovan Askew (September 11, 1928 – March 13, 2014) was an American politician, who served as the 37th governor of Florida from 1971 to 1979. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 7th U.S. Trade representative from 1979 to 1980 under President Jimmy Carter. He led on tax reform, civil rights, and financial transparency for public officials, maintaining an outstanding reputation for personal integrity. Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Askew established a legal practice in Pensacola, Florida, after graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He served as a military intelligence officer in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Anne Askew (sometimes spelled Ayscough or Ascue) married name Anne Kyme, (152116 July 1546) was an English writer, poet, and Anabaptist preacher who was condemned as a heretic during the reign of Henry VIII of England. She and Margaret Cheyne are the only women on record known to have been both tortured in the Tower of London and burnt at the stake. She is also one of the earliest known female poets to compose in the English language. Biography Anne Askew was born in 1521 in Lincolnshire, England, to Sir William Askew, a wealthy landowner, and Elizabeth Wrotessley, of Reading, Berkshire. He previously competed in the Formula E World Championship for Avalanche Andretti Formula E. He is the 2019 Indy Lights champion. Rilla Askew (born 1951) is an American novelist and short story writer who was born in Poteau, in the Sans Bois Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma, and grew up in the town of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Early life and education Askew graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.F.A. in Theatre Performance in 1980. She moved then to New York where she studied acting at HB Studio with Herbert Bergoff in New York and later Curt Dempster at Ensemble Studio Theatre. She began writing—plays first, then fiction—with her theatre background supporting the use of language and rhythm in her works. She went on to study creative writing at Brooklyn College, where she received her MFA in 1989. Vincent Jerome Askew (born February 28, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player who played for nine seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for eight different teams. A 6'6" guard-forward, Askew played college basketball for Memphis State University. He was raised by his grandmother who had 13 kids and custody of Askew and three cousins. Dave Askew (born 3 April 1963) is a former English professional darts player who competed in events of the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He is a two-time semi-finalist of the PDC World Championship (2001 and 2002), losing to eventual winner Phil Taylor on both occasions. In rugby, Askew played as a fullback, while in cricket he played as a right-handed batsman. He was born at Gateshead, County Durham. Askew was educated at Durham School. He made his debut in county cricket for Durham against Northumberland in the 1928 Minor Counties Championship. He played Minor counties cricket for Durham from 1928 to 1931, making eight appearances. He later attended Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he made two first-class appearances for Cambridge University Cricket Club in 1931, against Sussex and the touring New Zealanders. He scored a total of 30 runs at an average of 7.50 in his two appearances, with a high score of 11. Matthias Askew (born July 1, 1982) is a former American football defensive tackle. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan State. Askew has also been a member of the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos.
