Asit Sen (director)
Asit Sen (24 September 1922 – 25 August 2001) was an Indian film director, cinematographer and screenwriter, who worked in both Bengali and Hindi cinema. He was born in Dhaka, now in modern-day Bangladesh, when it was part of East Bengal in British India. He directed 17 feature films in Hindi and Bengali, and was most known for the films '' Deep Jweley Jai'' (1959) and ''Uttar Falguni ''(1963) in Bengali, '' Mamta'' (1966), '' Khamoshi'' (1969), ''Anokhi Raat'' (1968) and '' Safar'' (1970) in Hindi. Career Remembered as a prominent filmmaker of his times with a career of more than four decades, making films in different Indian languages, Asit Sen’s contribution in Indian cinema deserves a special mention along with other stalwarts of that era. Bikrampur ("City of Courage") was a pargana situated south of Dhaka, the modern capital city of Bangladesh. In the present day, it is known as Munshiganj District of Bangladesh. Asit Sen (actor)
Asit Sen (13 May 1917 – 18 September 1993) was an Indian film director turned famous comedian in the Hindi film industry. He directed 2 films and starred in over 200 films between 1953 and 1993 until his death. As an actor/comedian, he often portrayed a character with authority, such as a police inspector or landlord, but with comic effect, mostly as a slow-speaking person. His acting career was particularly prolific in the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. He had a very thin voice, in striking contrast to his huge physical frame and spoke his dialogues at a slow pace. ''Annadata'' () is a 1972 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Asit Sen. The film stars Jaya Bhaduri and Anil Dhawan and Om Prakash. Plot Amba Prasad, a rich benevolent man, people refer to him as 'anndata' (the food provider). He is supposed to have died in an Air crash and all his "relatives" gather to find out how much they can inherit. A poor girl he literally brought up like his daughter claims to be carrying his baby, under pressure from her greedy parents. However, it turns out that Amba Prasad is alive as he had missed the flight.
