Asia Rugby Sevens Series
The Asia Rugby Sevens Series is an annual series of regional rugby sevens tournaments run by Asia Rugby featuring national sevens teams. It has been held regularly since 2009 to determine Asia's best men's national team in the sport of rugby sevens. History The first season of the competition began in 2009 with two events happening in Shanghai and Borneo. In the first season, Japan took out the trophy after taking out the Borneo Sevens and finishing runner up in Shanghai. Tournaments Tournaments that have featured as ranking events in the Asian Sevens Series include: Notes: ''Italics'' denotes tournaments that are non-ranking events not counting towards the annual series championship. The inaugural 2009 series also included non-ranking events at ''Kish Island'' in Iran, '' Subic'' in the Philippines, and ''Brunei''. Asia Rugby
Asia Rugby, formerly the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU), is the governing body of rugby union in Asia under the authority of World Rugby. Founded in 1968 by eight charter nations, the Union today has 36 member unions in countries across Asia, stretching from Kazakhstan to Guam. The aim of Asia Rugby is "to raise physical and moral standards in Asia by education in the healthy pursuit of Rugby Football and to promote friendship among Asian countries". 2009 Carlton Rugby 7's
The 2009 Carlton Rugby 7s, had previously been conducted as the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7s competition but was rebranded as the Sri Lanka Sevens#Carlton 7s, Carlton Sri Lanka Rugby 7s under a new partnership between the Tharunyata Hetak Foundation and the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU). The tournament was the sixth and final leg of the Asian Sevens Series for the year. The Carlton 7s were held on 27–29 November 2008 at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, involving 12 teams from the Asian rugby playing nations of Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, China, Thailand, Iran, Jordan, Brunei, Pakistan and Malaysia, together with the host nation, Sri Lanka. 2021 Asia Rugby Sevens Series
The 2021 Asia Rugby Sevens Series was a rugby sevens tournament held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in late November 2021. Following the cancellation of the 2020 series due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the twelfth edition of Asia's continental sevens circuit. The event acted as a qualifier for the 2022 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series in Chile and the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens in South Africa. Hong Kong and South Korea qualified for both events. 2016 Colombo Sevens
The 2016 Colombo Sevens was the third and final leg of the Asian Sevens Series for the year. The tournament was held between 15 and 16 October 2016 at the Colombo International Rugby Stadium. Hong Kong had their third straight tournament win in the series, defeating South Korea 24-19 in the Cup final. The victory secured Hong Kong the overall series title and a place in the international qualifier for the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens, which is part of the World Rugby Sevens Series. China defeated Sri Lanka 22-21 in the third/fourth place playoff however the home side secured enough overall points in the series to finish second and also secure a place in the international qualifier at the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens. 2016 Korean Sevens
The 2016 Korean Sevens was the second leg of the Asian Rugby Sevens Series for the year. It was the first time the Korean Sevens tournament was included in the series.
