Asia Pacific Dragons
The Asia Pacific Dragons, also known as APDs, is a rugby union team based in Singapore that played in the Global Rapid Rugby Showcase Series of 2019. History The team is owned and managed by Carinat Sports Marketing based in Hong Kong. The team was founded in 2011 by bringing together the best players from the Pacific Islands and those with heritage in the Islands. It has subsequently focused on nurturing talent and promoting rugby. The team won its first match in Hong Kong against an invitational World XV to claim the inaugural Chartis Cup in 2011. The Asia Pacific Dragons successfully defended the cup against English club Saracens in 2012. Initially, the APDs played 15-a-side rugby, then expanded to play rugby sevens and rugby tens. The team won the Hong Kong Football Club Tens in 2012 and the Singapore Cricket Club Sevens in 2013, and competed at the World Club 10s in Singapore in 2014. As of February 2015, there over 12,000 registered players, with more than 2,000 women playing the sport. There are also 15 formally organised clubs with 4 registered Women's sides. Club Rugby in Singapore is played in three divisions – the Premiership, the Championship, and the Conference. School Rugby is also hotly contested over three age groups – the C division (under 14), the B division (under 17) and the A division (under 19). World Club 10s is a rugby union tournament played under rugby tens rules, and contested by professional clubs from around the world. Top-level teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania, have played in the tournament since the first edition in 2014. History The first tournament was played in Singapore as the opening event of the new National Stadium, Singapore, National Stadium in June 2014. The Auckland Blues of New Zealand won the final by 10–5 after double extra time against Australia's ACT Brumbies. Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby Sevens
The Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament hosted by the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC). The event is one of the premier international club tournaments in Asia, involving teams from around the world. The trophy for the tournament, the Ablitt Cup, is named after Mr Bernard E Ablitt who was Convenor of the SCC Rugby Section from 1931-2 and President of the club from 1938-9. The silver Ablitt Cup was donated by Mrs Katherine Parentis in 1947 for the winners of the first seven-a-side tournament organised by the SCC Rugby Section. The tournament has since become an annual competition and one of the world's oldest rugby sevens competitions.
