Asia Museum Of Modern Art
The Asia Museum of Modern Art (; Taiwanese: A-tsiu Hiān-tāi Bí-su̍t-kuán) is an art museum in Wufeng District, Taichung, Taiwan. The museum is located at Asia University. History The groundbreaking ceremony for the museum construction was held on 24 January 2011. On 4 September 2013, the museum was officially named the Asia Museum of Modern Art or Asia Modern in short. After years of construction, the soft launch of the museum was held on 21 September 2013. The museum was officially opened on 24 October 2013 in a ceremony attended by President Ma Ying-jeou, Taichung Mayor Jason Hu. Architecture The museum was designed by architect Tadao Ando with a triangular shape of structure. The museum interior covers an area of 4,111 m2 with additional surrounding grounds measuring 19,840 m2. Wufeng District
Wufeng District () is a suburban district in southern Taichung, Taiwan. It is the location of Taiwan Provincial Consultative Council. Wufeng is a mainly agricultural town. It was heavily damaged by the Jiji earthquake on 21 September 1999, which caused around 100 deaths in the town. The 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan, which commemorates the giant quake, is built at what was formerly Guangfu Junior High School, which was destroyed when part of the school was uplifted by the Chelungpu Fault during the quake. The two major geographical features of this town are the Wu Xi (Wu Stream), which forms the town's southern border, and Xiangbi Shan (Elephant Trunk Mountain), which lies in the eastern part of the township. Taichung (, Wade–Giles: ''Tʻai²-chung¹'', pinyin: ''Táizhōng''), officially Taichung City, is a special municipality located in central Taiwan. Taichung has approximately 2.8 million residents and is the second most populous city of Taiwan, as well as the most populous city in Central Taiwan. Tadao Ando
is a Japanese autodidact architect whose approach to architecture and landscape was categorized by architectural historian Francesco Dal Co as "critical regionalism". He is the winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize. Early life Ando was born a few minutes before his twin brother in 1941 in Osaka, Japan. At the age of two, his family chose to separate them, and have Tadao live with his great grandmother. He worked as a boxer and fighter before settling on the profession of architect, despite never having formal training in the field. Struck by the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Imperial Hotel on a trip to Tokyo as a second-year high school student, he eventually decided to end his boxing career less than two years after graduating from high school to pursue architecture. Ma Ying-jeou ( zh, 馬英九, born 13 July 1950) is a Hong Kong-born Taiwanese politician who served as president of the Republic of China from 2008 to 2016. Previously, he served as justice minister from 1993 to 1996 and mayor of Taipei from 1998 to 2006. He served as chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) from 2005 to 2007 and from 2009 to 2014. Jason Hu (; born 15 May 1948) is a Taiwanese politician. He was the mayor of Taichung as provincial city in 2001-2010 and as special municipality in 2010–2014. He is a member of the Kuomintang (KMT), and has been the Vice Chairman of the party since April 2014. Early life Hu was born in Beijing (then known as Peiping) in Mainland China on 15 May 1948, and was a war refugee to Taiwan as a young child when the Chinese Nationalists lost their civil war with the Communists in 1949.
