Ernest Bert Ashworth (December 15, 1928 – March 2, 2009) was an American country music singer, broadcaster, and longtime Grand Ole Opry star. Signed to the Hickory label, he recorded two studio albums in his career and charted several singles on ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs, including the number one "Talk Back Trembling Lips" and seven other top ten hits. Biography Born in Huntsville, Alabama, United States, he began his career singing on Huntsville radio station WBHP. In 1950, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked for several radio stations and was signed by Wesley Rose as a songwriter for Acuff-Rose Music. Jenn Ashworth is an English writer born in 1982 in Preston, Lancashire. In June 2018 Ashworth was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in its "40 Under 40" initiative. Education At the age of 11 Ashworth informed her parents that she did not want to go to school, in a behaviour commonly called school refusal. At 13 she was sent to pupil referral unit Larches House which she enjoyed attending; but her placement there ended early after Ashworth was told she would only be allowed to go for one term, and she declined to carry on attending. She eventually returned to mainstream school and after completing her A-Levels, studied English literature at Newnham College, Cambridge, followed by an MA in creative writing at Manchester University's Centre for New Writing in 2006. Jeanne Chesley Ashworth (July 1, 1938 – October 4, 2018) was an American speed skater who competed in the 1960 Winter Olympics, 1964 Winter Olympics and 1968 Winter Olympics. Ashworth competed in the first Olympic speed skating event for women. She won the bronze medal, finishing behind a German and Russian. During the late 1950s and 1960s, when Ashworth was at the height of her career, she won 11 national championships. She was born in Burlington, Vermont. James Ashworth (born 8 April 1957) is a British former marathon runner, who won the 1985 Berlin Marathon, and came second at the 1983 Berlin Marathon. He also won the 1985 Miami Marathon. Career Ashworth competed for Bingley Harriers. In 1983, Ashworth won the Piccadilly Marathon in Manchester, England. Later in the year, he came second at the 1983 Berlin Marathon, 24 seconds behind Karel Lismont. It has his personal best time. Lance Corporal James Thomas Duane Ashworth, VC (26 May 1989 – 13 June 2012) was a British soldier and posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was killed in Afghanistan on 13 June 2012 as he led his fire team in an attack on an enemy-held compound. Herman Dale Ashworth (February 26, 1973 – September 27, 2005) was an American murderer who was executed by the U.S. state of Ohio. He admitted to committing aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in the death of Daniel L. Baker on September 10, 1996. Ashworth was executed by lethal injection at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility after spending 8 years, three months, and 11 days on death row. Henry Ashworth (4 September 1794 – 17 May 1880) was an English cotton manufacturer, friend of Richard Cobden, and founding member of the Anti-Corn Law League. Early life and business career Henry Ashworth was born on 4 September 1794 into a prominent Quaker farming family at Birtenshaw, then an outlying hamlet to the north of Bolton, Lancashire. His father was John Ashworth, who supplemented his income by buying cotton and selling it to local cottage weavers, buying back the finished cloth to sell in Manchester and who in 1793 had built the water powered New Eagley cotton spinning mill on the banks of the Eagley brook.
