Ashurst, Hampshire
Ashurst is a village in the New Forest district of Hampshire, England, which together with Colbury hamlet makes the parish of Ashurst and Colbury. Ashurst is on the A35 road near the Southampton conurbation. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 2,011, increasing to 2,093 at the 2011 Census. The parish is on the edge of the designated New Forest National Park area. The village has a campsite, some shops and a railway station. The parish is bounded to the west by Netley Marsh parish and the Bartley Water, to the north by the A326 road and Totton and Eling, and to the south by Denny Lodge parish in the New Forest. Ashurst is close to the City of Southampton and is often considered an exurb of it, a large percentage of its population being commuters. Millvina Dean, the last survivor of the sinking of RMS Titanic, was living in Ashurst at the time of her death in May 2009 at the age of 97. Ashurst (New Forest) railway station is in Ashurst, Hampshire, England, on the South West Main Line from to . It is down the line from Waterloo. History Opened as Lyndhurst Road on 1 June 1847 by the Southampton and Dorchester Railway, then absorbed by the London and South Western Railway, it became part of the Southern Railway during the grouping of 1923. The station was host to a Southern Railway camping coach from 1936 to 1939. The station then passed on to the Southern Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. A camping coach was positioned here by the Southern Region from 1954 to 1960, the coach was replaced in 1961 by a ''Pullman'' camping coach until 1965 which was joined by another ''Pullman'' for 1966 and 1967. The station was renamed Ashurst (New Forest) on 24 September 1995. Ashurst is a village and former civil parish five miles (8 km) west of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent, England, and is now in the parish of Speldhurst. Ashurst railway station is on the branch of the Oxted line in southern England and serves Ashurst in Kent (very close to the East Sussex border). It is from . The station is managed by Southern. History Opened by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, it became part of the Southern Railway during the grouping of 1923. The station was destaffed around 1970 following which all the station buildings were demolished in 1983. Skelmersdale is a town in Lancashire, England, on the River Tawd, west of Wigan, northeast of Liverpool and southwest of Preston. In 2006, it had a population of 38,813. The town is known locally as Skem . Ashurst Wood is a village and civil parish in the Mid Sussex District of West Sussex, within the historic county of Sussex, England. It is to the southeast of East Grinstead, just off the A22 arterial road. In 2001, the population was 1,771, increasing to 1,833 at the 2011 Census. Ashurst Wood is within the High Weald Area of Natural Beauty and has an SSSI inside its boundaries.
