Ashok Sinha
Ashok Sinha (born 8 November 1964) is a British environmental campaigner. Scientific and policy background Sinha studied physics at the University of Bristol and completed his PhD in renewable energy at Cambridge. Following this he spent a number of years pursuing research into climate change science at Reading University and Imperial College London, producing a variety of publications on climate feedback process. He then moved into policy analysis with Forum for the Future, working on climate change-renewable energy policy proposals, and then briefly for Solar Century. Campaigning Ashok Sinha was one of the group of UK NGO activists who founded the UK Make Poverty History campaign, serving on its governing body, which he did whilst he was leading the Jubilee Debt Campaign. In 2005 he became Director of the newly founded Stop Climate Chaos coalition (SCC), now called the Climate Coalition. Stop Climate Chaos
Stop Climate Chaos is a climate change coalition of environmental and international development nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that was formed in September 2005. The coalition ran the "I Count" campaign in 2006–07 and organized 'The Wave', a campaign focused on the climatic impacts of energy production which took place on 5 December 2009, in the run up to the UN talks in Copenhagen. The coalition encourages individuals to enact their own approaches and to lobby the government of the United Kingdom for what they see as positive policies on climate change. From 2005 to 2010 the director of the coalition was Ashok Sinha. There is also a Scottish secretariat called Stop Climate Chaos Scotland. The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is an independent membership charity lobbying for better conditions for cycling in London. Its vision is to make London "a world-class cycling city". It is one of the largest urban cycling organisations in the world, with over 11,000 members. Activities LCC was formed in 1978, through the merger of several London-based pro-cycling groups, some supported by Friends of the Earth. The organisation was officially founded on 28 September 1978 at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese public house on Fleet Street, and its first offices were at 40 James Street, London W1. Climate Change Act 2008
The Climate Change Act 2008 (c 27) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The Act makes it the duty of the Secretary of State to ensure that the net UK carbon account for all six Kyoto greenhouse gases for the year 2050 is at least 100% lower than the 1990 baseline, toward avoiding dangerous climate change. The Act aims to enable the United Kingdom to become a low-carbon economy and gives ministers powers to introduce the measures necessary to achieve a range of greenhouse gas reduction targets. An independent Committee on Climate Change was created under the Act to provide advice to UK Government on these targets and related policies. Debt Justice (formerly Jubilee Debt Campaign, Jubilee Debt Coalition and Drop The Debt) is a UK-based campaigning organisation that exists to end unjust developing countries' debt and the poverty and inequality it perpetuates.
