Ashley Cooper (politician)
Ashley Horace Cooper (February 6, 1905 – December 13, 1981) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1959 to 1975 sitting with the Social Credit caucus in both government and opposition. Political career Cooper ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature as a Social Credit candidate for the first time in the 1955 Alberta general election. He ran in a hotly contested race in the electoral district of Vermilion against Liberal candidate Russell Whitson and two other candidates. Cooper initially lead the race on the first vote count, but fell behind in the third count losing to Whitson by 20 votes. Cooper and Whitson faced each other for the second time in the 1959 Alberta general election. This time Cooper won defeating Whitson and two other candidates by a wide margin. Ashley John Cooper AO (15 September 193622 May 2020) was an Australian tennis player who played between 1953 and 1968. He was ranked as the world's No. 1 amateur player during the years of 1957 and 1958. Cooper won four singles and four doubles titles at Grand Slam tournaments. He won three of the four Grand Slam events in 1958. He turned professional in 1959. Cooper won the Slazenger Professional Championships tournament in 1959. He won the Grand Prix de Europe professional tour of Europe in 1960. Cooper won the European Cup professional tour of Europe in 1962. He retired from tennis play at the end of 1962 due to injury. Playing career Amateur Cooper won his first Grand Slam singles title at the 1957 Australian Championships where he defeated compatriot Neale Fraser in the final in four sets. Ashley Cooper is a British photographer with a particular interest in documenting the effects of global warming. His 2013 photograph of a polar bear that had starved to death was published in ''The Guardian'' and elsewhere and called attention to the effect of the lack of sea ice in the Arctic. Early life and education Cooper graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 1983 with a B.Sc. in physical geography. In 1986 he became the first person to climb all the 3,000 ft summits of Great Britain and Ireland (the Munros and the Furths) in one continuous expedition of 111 days, 2,500 km, and 150 km of ascent. Photography Cooper won the climate change category of the 2010 Environmental Photographer of the Year, and was one of the judges for the 2018 competition. Ashley Cooper (born 23 February 1988) is a country singer from New Zealand. Biography Cooper was born in Cambridge, New Zealand. She was a contestant on the second series of ''New Zealand Idol''. After being the third person to be eliminated out of the top ten on Idol, she released her first single "I Want You", which debuted at nineteen and eventually peaked at number nine. Most of the single's success can be based on the physical sales of the single, as well as airplay, which it received.
