Alicia Ashley (born August 23, 1967) is a women's boxing participant who is the former WBC female world super bantamweight champion. Ashley is a Jamaican-American. Born in Jamaica, she moved to the United States at a young age. She is the younger sister of chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley and former world kickboxing champion Devon Ashley. Career Ashley began her professional boxing career on January 29, 1999, defeating Lisa Howarth by a six-round split decision, at Atlantic City, New Jersey. On her second professional boxing fight, held at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, she suffered her first defeat, when she was outpointed over six rounds by Doris Hackl on June 20 of that year. James Ashley (21 May 1940 – 12 August 2006) was a Liberal Democrat politician in the city of Manchester, England. He was the Lord Mayor of Manchester and a councillor in the Gorton South ward. Richard Ashley (27 October 1902 – 7 August 1974) was a first-class cricketer who played two matches for Somerset County Cricket Club in 1932. He also appeared in two first-class matches in India in the late 1930s, playing for Mysore in the Ranji Trophy and for the Europeans (India) in the Bombay Pentangular Tournament. He was a right-handed batsman and a fast-medium bowler, though it is not known whether he bowled with his right or left hand. A 2017 book states that he was born in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, and died in Bognor Regis, West Sussex; previously it had been thought that he was born at Axbridge and died at Selsey. Richard Godfrey Ashley (8 September 1774 – 11 October 1836) was an English musician, and a son of John Ashley. Early life Ashley was the fourth son of John Ashley, a conductor and bassoonist who became the father of a notable family of musicians ( General Charles Ashley, John James Ashley, and Charles Jane Ashley), and his wife, Mary (''née'' Jane). He was born on 8 September 1774, in the parish of St George Hanover Square, London, and baptised in the parish church on 10 September. At 9 years old, Ashley was already performing, participating in Westminster Abbey's 1784 Handel Commemoration and performing at the Pantheon in May and June of the same year. Michael C. B. Ashley is an Australian astronomer and professor in the school of physics at the University of New South Wales, in Sydney. He is most famous for his work in Antarctica, with the study of the seeing capability at Dome C. Antarctica and Dome C In September 2004, ''Nature'' published a report written by Jon Lawrence, Michael Ashley, Andrei Tokovinin, and Tony Travouillon on the seeing abilities of astronomical telescopes in Antarctica. The paper concluded that Dome C would be "the best ground-based site to develop a new astronomical observatory." Maurice Ashley (born March 6, 1966) is a Jamaican-American chess player, author, and commentator. In 1999, he earned the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM), making him the first black person to do so. Ashley is well known as a commentator for high-profile chess events. He also spent many years teaching chess. On April 13, 2016, Ashley was inducted into the US Chess Hall of Fame. Laura Ashley (née Mountney; 7 September 1925 – 17 September 1985) was a Welsh fashion designer and businesswoman. She originally made furnishing materials in the 1950s, expanding the business into clothing design and manufacture in the 1960s. The Laura Ashley style is characterised by Romantic designs – often with a 19th-century rural feel – and the use of natural fabrics.
