''Ashgrove'' is an album by American artist Dave Alvin, released in 2004. It reached number 38 on the Top Independent Albums chart. Background The title song is in reference to the Ashgrove club where Alvin first saw his early inspirations Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, Lightnin' Hopkins and Reverend Gary Davis. "The Man in the Bed" is a reflection on the death of his father. Reception Writing for Allmusic, music critic Mark Deming wrote of the album "Dave is rockin' again...though just a little bit... It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. David Piltch
David Piltch (born January 29, 1960) is a Canadian bassist and session musician. Biography Piltch grew up in an artistic family. His father Bernie Piltch was a noted studio and stage saxophonist, clarinetist and flutist in Toronto from the late '40s to the early '80s. His older brother Robert is a recording guitarist, and his sister Susan plays flute and piano. Beginning at age 17, Piltch supported jazz musicians performing at Toronto's Bourbon Street club, including Chet Baker, Art Pepper, Zoot Sims, and Mose Allison. He also accompanied his brother or father at recording sessions and gigs. In 1979, Piltch recorded and toured with Blood, Sweat & Tears. Don Heffington
Don Heffington (December 20, 1950March 24, 2021) was an American drummer, percussionist, and songwriter. He was a founding member of the Los Angeles alternative country band Lone Justice, which he performed with from 1982 to 1985. Heffington was also a member of the bluegrass band Watkins Family Hour, recorded three solo albums, and was a session and touring musician for various artists, including Lowell George, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, Victoria Williams, the Wallflowers, the Jayhawks, and Joanna Newsom. Chris Gaffney (October 3, 1950 – April 17, 2008) was an American singer and songwriter from the Southwest. His career, both as a solo musician and as a member of several bands, was as eclectic as his musical tastes. Although he never achieved widespread fame, Gaffney, who died at the age of 57 from liver cancer, left his mark on country, rock, soul, and other forms of American music. Louie Pérez
Louis Frausto Pérez, Jr. (born January 29, 1953) is an American songwriter, percussionist and guitarist for Los Lobos and Latin Playboys. Pérez started with Los Lobos playing primarily jarana (a small Mexican guitar) and singing. He is one of the founding members of Los Lobos, established in 1973. As Los Lobos ventured into Norteño music and rock, Pérez became the drummer, first with just a snare drum. In 1990, Victor Bisetti was hired to be a combination drum tech, drum coach and percussionist. As time went on, Bisetti took a more active role as drummer, allowing Pérez to move back to the front of the stage and start playing guitar. Bisetti was replaced in 2003 by Ruben (Cougar) Estrada.
