Ashfield Sports Club is an Australian semi-professional football club based in the suburb of Ashfield, Perth, Western Australia, and founded in 1970. The club will compete in 2022 in the Football West State League Division 2. History Formed in 1970 the club was first named Ashfield Dynamo after its location in an industrial area. A dynamo is a machine that produces energy, so was a fitting name for the newly founded, "energetic" club. It competed in the Semi Professional League Division 2 in 1976. Following the Australian Soccer Federation decision to ban all ethnic names at all levels of competition, the club was renamed Ashfield Soccer and Sports Club. The fact that "Dynamo" was not ethnically linked in any way, seemed to be forgotten by the governing body at the time. In 1996 a partnership with Bunbury Tricolore, saw the name changed to Ashfield-Bunbury and the club won its first title in 1998. Ashfield, Western Australia
Ashfield is a residential suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the Town of Bassendean. The suburb is located along the Swan River. The Midland line passes through the suburb and it is serviced by the Ashfield railway station. The housing was originally established as small collection of railway houses near the train line. In the late 1950s early 1960s the area experienced a small boom of housing (400 houses) mostly built by the then State Housing Commission partly funded by the sale of half the properties to individuals. In the late 1960s the State Housing started to reacquire some of those properties. During the late 1990s the suburb underwent a revamp driven by the State Housing Commission, now called the Department of Housing. This occurred in conjunction with the infill sewage project which was created to convert Perth homes from septic tanks and leach drains to mains sewage. South West Phoenix Football Club is an Australian semi-professional association football club based in Bunbury, Western Australia. The club will compete in 2023 in the Football West Amateur League Premier Division. History The first club from the Bunbury region to join the Perth-based State League was Bunbury City FC from 1979 to 1987. Bunbury Tricolore FC entered the State Amateur League in 1990, and participated there for the following 5 seasons. In 1996 they amalgamated with Ashfield to form Ashfield-Bunbury and entered the State League Division One; in 1999 this combined club won promotion to the Premier League after three seasons in Division One. The amalgamation with Ashfield was brought about mainly because of the costs involved in playing in the State League. The 2018 Football West season was the fifth season under the current competition format in Western Australia. The NPL premiers Perth SC qualified for the National Premier Leagues finals series.
