Randolph County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 144,171. Its county seat is Asheboro. Randolph County is included in the Greensboro- High Point, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point, NC Combined Statistical Area. North Carolina Zoo
The North Carolina Zoo is a zoo in Asheboro, North Carolina, housing 1,800 animals of more than 250 species, primarily representing Africa and North America. It is one of two state-supported zoos in the United States, with the other being the Minnesota Zoo. With developed, it is the world's largest natural habitat zoo. The North Carolina Zoo is a part of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The Zoo is west of Raleigh, south of Greensboro and northeast of Charlotte. Asheboro Hosiery Mills and Cranford Furniture Company Complex, also known as Cranford Industries and National Chair Company, is a historic textile mill and furniture factory complex located at Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. The complex includes three brick industrial buildings erected from 1917 through the 1940s and the Cranford Industries Office, constructed in 1925. Also on the property are the contributing Cranford Industries Smokestack built in the 1950s and a lumber shed erected in the late-1950s. Acme-McCrary Hosiery Mills
Acme-McCrary Hosiery Mills, also known as Acme Hosiery Mills, McCrary Hosiery Mills, and Asheboro Grocery Company, is a historic textile mill complex located at Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. The complex includes six buildings and a smokestack, erected between 1909 and 1962. The mill buildings were designed by architect Richard C. Biberstein and the oldest section is a two-story, heavy-timber-frame mill with load bearing brick walls. The Acme-McCrary-Sapona Recreation Center was built in 1948–1949, and is a two-story, Art Moderne style brick recreation center. The buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. The buildings were owned by Acme Hosiery Mills, which was purchased by brothers-in-law D.B. McCrary and T.H. Sunset Theater is a historic movie theater located at Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. It was designed by the architectural firm of Benton & Benton and built in 1929. The Wilson Kindley House was built around 1873, and is a two-story, single-pile, three-bay, vernacular Greek Revival style brick dwelling. Mount Shepherd Pottery Site
The Mount Shepherd Pottery Site is a historic archaeological site on the grounds of the Mount Shepherd Retreat Center, outside Asheboro, North Carolina. The site is that of a late 18th-century pottery, possibly of Moravian origin. The principal feature of the site is a five-flued circular kiln, and it was accompanied by numerous pottery fragments and items, including stove tiles, slipware, earthenware, and smoking pipes. The site has been associated with a Moravian master potter, Gottfried Aust, who one researcher believes ran the site between 1793 and 1799. Samuel Ashe (North Carolina Governor)
Samuel Ashe (March 24, 1725February 3, 1813) was the ninth List of governors of North Carolina, governor of the U.S. state of North Carolina from 1795 to 1798. He was also one of the first three judges of the North Carolina Superior Court in 1787. Life story Ashe was born in Beaufort, North Carolina, Beaufort in the Province of North Carolina. His father, John Baptista Ashe, and brother, John Ashe (general), John Ashe, both served as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Speaker of the North Carolina Assembly, or House of Burgesses. Ashe became an orphan at the age of nine. He married Mary Porter in 1748; they had three children, including John Baptista Ashe (delegate), John Baptista Ashe, who would serve in the Continental Congress. After Mary died, Ashe remarried, this time to the former Elizabeth Merrik.
