Ashdown High School is a comprehensive public high school located in the town of Ashdown, Arkansas, United States. The school provides secondary education for students in grades 9 through 12. It is one of two public high schools in Little River County, Arkansas and the sole high school administered by the Ashdown School District. Academics Ashdown High School is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and has been accredited by AdvancED since 1929. The assumed course of study follows the Common Core curriculum developed by the ADE. Students complete regular (core and elective) and career focus coursework and exams and may take Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams with the opportunity to receive college credit. Ashdown (formerly Turkey Flats and Keller) is a city in Little River County, Arkansas, United States. The community was incorporated in 1892 and has been the county seat since 1906. Located within the Arkansas Timberlands between the Little River and the Red River, Ashdown's economy and development have historically been tied to the timber industry. Timber is still a major industry here. Ashdown's population at the 2010 census was 4,723, a slight decrease from the 2000 census. The Ashdown School District provides early childhood, elementary and secondary education for more than 1,500 kindergarten through grade 12 students at its five facilities. History The first school building for white children was built in 1903, though classes had been meeting since 1891 in a building owned by Alex Bishop. Little River County is a county located on the southwest border of the U.S. state of Arkansas, bordering a corner with Texas and Oklahoma. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,026. The county seat is Ashdown. Little River County is included in the Texarkana, TX- AR Metropolitan Statistical Area.
