Ashburton Playing Fields
Ashburton Playing Fields is a playing field located in Woodside, London. It is managed by the London Borough of Croydon. The fields are bordered by Bywood Avenue in the north, Chaucer Green in the west and Woodville Avenue in the east. Stroud Green Way backs onto the western boundary. Tramlink services for the park are Arena and Woodside. It covers an area of . Facilities include football and cricket pitches, changing rooms, and children's playground. The fields are open 24 hours per day throughout the year, although pitches and use of changing rooms have to be booked in advance. Tramlink
London Trams, previously Tramlink and Croydon Tramlink, is a light rail tram system serving Croydon and surrounding areas in South London, England. It began operation in 2000, the first tram system in the London region since 1952. It is managed by London Trams, a public body part of Transport for London (TfL), and has been operated by FirstGroup since 2017. Tramlink is one of two light rail networks in Greater London, the other being the Docklands Light Railway. Arena tram stop is a light rail stop in the Woodside area of South Norwood in the London Borough of Croydon in the southern suburbs of London. The stop is located by the Croydon Sports Arena and serves the council estates of Longheath Gardens Estate and Tollgate Estate. The tram stop is located on a section of line which follows the trackbed of the former Woodside and South Croydon Railway, although there was no station at the location prior to the opening of Tramlink. The stop is at ground level on double track, with platforms on each side of the tracks. Immediately to the east of the station is a junction where services diverge either to the north along a section of route specially constructed for Tramlink, or continue straight ahead along the former railway right of way. Woodside Tram Stop
Woodside tram stop is a light rail stop situated between Woodside Green and Ashburton Park in the London Borough of Croydon in the southern suburbs of London. The stop is located on the site of the former Woodside railway station (London), Woodside railway station of the Woodside and South Croydon Railway; the old station buildings survive, though not used by Tramlink. The tram stop has a platform on each side of the track with access to both platforms by stairs on the west side of the station building and by ramps on the east side. Services Woodside is served by tram services operated by Tramlink. Ashburton Park
Ashburton Park is a park located in Woodside, in the London Borough of Croydon, and takes its name from nearby Ashburton. The park is located close to Woodside tram stop, where Tramlink services the park. It is on the junction of Lower Addiscombe Road and Spring Lane. The park covers an area of and includes a village green, pétanque terrain, bowling green, tennis and basketball courts and a café. History The site was once the location of Woodside Convent, and the property has changed hands many times since then. A mansion was built on the site in 1788. Croydon Corporation bought the house and grounds by Compulsory Purchase Order in 1924. Most of the buildings were torn down, with a putting green (no longer there) being laid on the site. The only remaining part of the house was the c. 1878 extension which became Ashburton Library. Croydon Sports Arena
South Norwood is a district of south-east London, England, within the London Borough of Croydon, Greater London and formerly in the historic county of Surrey. It is located 7.8 miles (12.5 km) south-east of Charing Cross, north of Woodside and Addiscombe, east of Selhurst and Thornton Heath, south of Crystal Palace/Upper Norwood and Anerley, and west of Elmers End and Penge. Together with Norwood New Town, it forms the electoral ward of South Norwood in the local authority of Croydon. The ward as a whole had a resident population in 2001 of just over 14,000. The south-eastern side of the district is dominated by the country park which opened in 1989. At the northern end of the town is South Norwood Lake, which was created after the reservoir for the unsuccessful Croydon Canal went out of use.
