Nick Ascroft
Nick Ascroft (born 1973) is a New Zealand poet and writer. Life Nick Ascroft was born in Oamaru, New Zealand in 1973. In his career of writing, his poetry has been featured widely in both New Zealand and international journals. Ascroft's published poetry collections have been well received, and he has helped in editing New Zealand literary magazines Landfall (journal), ''Landfall'', ''Glottis: New Writing'' and ''takahē.'' Recently he has expanded into non-fiction, writing about football. Ascroft's poetic influences include song lyrics, Bruce Robinson's screenplay for ''Withnail & I'', the wordier skits of Monty Python, Peter Cook or Fry & Laurie, and Tina Fey. Away from writing, Ascroft enjoys competitive Scrabble, indoor soccer, and also identifies as a wikipedian. Ascroft describes the Scrabble urge and the sonnet-writing urge as similar, as they are both about the mathematical puzzle and that he is "genuinely delighted by language." Harry Ascroft
Harry Andrew Ascroft (born 1 July 1995) is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a centre back or central midfielder for Dandenong Thunder in the National Premier Leagues. Ascroft was born in Sydney, and played youth football with Bankstown City FC before starting his senior career with Sydney University. In 2013, he moved to the Netherlands to play for VVV-Venlo in the Eerste Divisie and later moved back to Australia to play for Central Coast Mariners in 2015. He has represented Australia at under-20 level. Club career In late 2013, aged 18, Ascroft signed with Dutch Eerste Divisie side VVV-Venlo. He was released by VVV along with fellow Australian Travis Cooper in early 2015 due to the club's financial difficulties On 29 July 2015, Ascroft was signed by Central Coast Mariners on a three-year deal. Robert Ascroft
Robert Ascroft, JP. MP, (1847 – 19 June 1899) was a prominent Lancashire solicitor and an English politician. He entered the House of Commons on 13 July 1895 and was one of the two Members of Parliament for Oldham between 1895 until his death, as a member of the Conservative Party. He was known as the "Workers' Friend" and after his death, a public subscription enabled a statue of him to be erected in Alexandra Park, Oldham. Eileen Ascroft
Eileen Ascroft (1914 – 29 April 1962) was a British journalist and writer. Ascroft worked as a journalist at the ''Daily Mirror'', where she met her second husband, Hugh Cudlipp; the couple married in 1945. (Her first husband was the film director Alexander Mackendrick.) In her book about Cudlipp, ''Newspapermen'', Ruth Dudley Edwards describes Ascroft as "blonde, talented and ambitious". Ascroft was sacked from the ''Mirror'' by the Editorial Director, Harry Guy Bartholomew, for using his oak office door as a dartboard. Ascroft was responsible for starting the women's page at the ''Evening Standard''.
