Ascaro Rovigo Gaelic Football
Ascaro Rovigo Gaelic Football is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in Rovigo, Italy. The club plays mainly Gaelic Football. Founded on 1 June 2012, it is the first and oldest Gaelic Football club in Italy and one of only three Italian football clubs recognized by Europe GAA, the European branch of Gaelic Athletic Association. Ascaro Rovigo plays against Padova Rovigo twice a year in the "Adige Cup." The first "Adige Cup" was the first Gaelic Football match ever played in Italy in 2012. Ascaro Rovigo plays in the Swiss/Italy Championship along with Padova and Lazio. In 2013 they reached third place. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. The European Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael na hEorpa) or Gaelic Games Europe is one of the international units of the GAA (outside Ireland), and is responsible for organising Gaelic games in continental Europe. Gaelic Games Europe is also responsible for the European Gaelic football, hurling, camogie and ladies' Gaelic football teams which compete every three years at the GAA World Gaelic Games. The first evidence of Gaelic games in Europe dates back to a hurling match in 1774 in Belgium, various games were played across the continent after that with their frequency increasing in the late 20th century.
