Asbjørn Øksendal (4 August 1922 – 23 May 2015) was a Norwegian novelist and non-fiction writer. He was born in Mosjøen, Helgeland Helgeland is the most southerly district in Northern Norway. Generally speaking, Helgeland refers to the part of Nordland county that is located south of the Arctic Circle. It is bordered in the north by the Saltfjellet mountains and Svartise .... He wrote several books on the subject of the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, including ''Lurøy-affæren'' from 1966, ''Operasjon Oleander'' from 1968, ''Når nøden er størst'' (on POW camps in Trøndelag) from 1969, ''Sluttspill i Rinnans bandekloster'' (on Sonderabteilung Lola) from 1971, and ''Gulltransporten'' (on the flight of the Norwegian National Treasury) from 1974. Mosjøen
Mosjøen (; sma, Mussere) is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town in Vefsn Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. Mosjøen is the oldest town in the Helgeland region, with only the Bodø (town), town of Bodø being older within Nordland county. The town is also the administrative centre of Vefsn Municipality. The old village of Mosjøen was declared a ladested in 1875. Helgeland is the most southerly district in Northern Norway. Generally speaking, Helgeland refers to the part of Nordland county that is located south of the Arctic Circle. It is bordered in the north by the Saltfjellet mountains and Svartisen glacier, which form a natural border with the Salten district. In the south, Helgeland borders Trøndelag county. The occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany during the Second World War began on 9 April 1940 after Operation Weserübung. Conventional armed resistance to the German invasion ended on 10 June 1940, and Nazi Germany controlled Norway until the capitulation of German forces in Europe on 8 May 1945. Throughout this period, a pro-German government named Den nasjonale regjering (English: the National Government) ruled Norway, while the Norwegian king Haakon VII and the prewar government escaped to London, where they formed a government in exile. Trøndelag (; sma, Trööndelage) is a county in the central part of Norway. It was created in 1687, then named Trondhjem County ( no, Trondhjems Amt); in 1804 the county was split into Nord-Trøndelag and Sør-Trøndelag by the King of Denmark-Norway, and the counties were reunited in 2018 after a vote of the two counties in 2016. ''Sonderabteilung'' Lola (in Norway also known as ''Rinnanbanden'' (Rinnan gang) was an independent group under the German ''Sicherheitsdienst'' in Trondheim, KDS Drontheim Referat IV. The '' Sonderabteilung'' ("Special Unit") consisted of around known 50-60 Norwegian informants who worked for Henry Rinnan, many of whom were former frontline soldiers in the ''Waffen-SS''. This group was not known to the vast majority of Norwegians, including the members of the Nasjonal Samling party, until after the war. Under cover the group contacted people who were anti-Nazi, through whom they infiltrated the Norwegian resistance movement. After a period of active work in the resistance group, both to gather information and build trust, the network was rolled up and the participants arrested and interrogated. Flight Of The Norwegian National Treasury
The National Treasury of Norway consisted of 50 tonnes of gold worth in 1940 (approximately in 1940, or in 2015.) When the German invasion began, the gold was evacuated from Oslo first overland to Åndalsnes and then by ship to Tromsø. From Tromsø, evacuating Allied forces took the cargo of gold to Britain. The gold arrived safely in Britain despite German ground and air attacks. It was ultimately shipped to North America.
