As If (U.S. TV Series)
''As If'' is an American comedy-drama adapted from the British television series of the same name which aired on UPN on March 5 to March 22, 2002. It served as a midseason replacement for '' Roswell'' and aired on Tuesdays on UPN after ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer''. The cast included Emily Corrie, who portrayed Sooz in the original UK version. Synopsis The series focused on six friends in Los Angeles, with full episodes shot entirely from one perspective. Each episode presented different modern topics that applied to many teens of the day. Cancellation The series was a part of the network's Tuesday evening 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot, which outside of a couple exceptions, was terminally troubled due to The WB and Fox's much better ratings on the evening. ''As If'' is a British comedy-drama programme broadcast on Channel 4. There were 76 episodes across four series, the first broadcast on 22 January 2001 and the last on 31 July 2004. Premise The series focused on six young adults who lived in London. Each episode was presented from a different character's point of view, which up to that point in time had never been done before in a comedy-drama television programme. The programme had a Cult television, cult following and received critical acclaim. It was considered groundbreaking and was compared to another British serial drama ''Hollyoaks''. Part of the programme's identity was the style, such as surreal fly-on-the-wall style camera work, fast camera transitions, wacky sound effects added to some scenes and the distinctive theme music (the tune "Would you...?" by the band Touch and Go (band), Touch and Go). The WB
The WB Television Network (for Warner Bros., or the "Frog Network", for its former mascot, Michigan J. Frog) was an American television network launched on broadcast television on January 11, 1995, as a joint venture between the Warner Bros. Entertainment division of Time Warner and the Tribune Broadcasting subsidiary of the Tribune Company, with the former acting as controlling partner. The network aired programs targeting teenagers and young adults between 12 and 34, with its children's division, Kids' WB, geared toward children 6 to 12. UPN Original Programming
The United Paramount Network (UPN) was an American broadcast television network that launched on January 16, 1995. It was originally owned by Chris-Craft Industries' United Television. Viacom (through its Paramount Television unit, which produced most of the network's series) turned it into a joint venture in 1996 after acquiring a 50% stake in the network, and subsequently purchased Chris-Craft's remaining stake in 2000. On December 31, 2005, UPN was spun off to CBS Corporation when Viacom split into two separate companies. CBS Corporation and Time Warner jointly announced on January 24, 2006, that the companies would shut down UPN and competitor The WB to launch a new joint venture network later that year.
