As Day Follows Night
''As Day Follows Night'' is the third album by Australian singer/songwriter Sarah Blasko. It was produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John and recorded in early 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden. It was released in Australia on 10 July 2009. The making of ''As Day Follows Night'' was chronicled by Blasko on her blog. At the J Awards of 2009, the album won Australian Album of the Year. Album In regards to the album's lyrical themes, Blasko told Rolling Stone Australia magazine: "The basis is definitely my life, but I like to take it into a heightened reality. I like the idea of 'the character' on the record. I like musicals, I like it to be fancy." The first single "All I Want" debuted on Richard Kingsmill's show on radio station Triple J on 2 May 2009. Sarah Elizabeth Blaskow (born 23 September 1976), known professionally as Sarah Blasko, is an Australian singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. From April 2002, Blasko developed her solo career after fronting Sydney-based band, Acquiesce, between the mid-1990s and 2001. She had performed under her then married name, Sarah Semmens, and, after leaving Acquiesce, as Sorija in a briefly existing duo of that name. "Out Here on My Own" is a ballad from the 1980 musical film '' Fame'', performed by Irene Cara. It was written by sibling songwriting duo Lesley Gore (lyricist) and Michael Gore (composer). ''Cabaret'' is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse, and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey. Set in Berlin during the Weimar Republic in 1931, under the presence of the growing Nazi Party, the film is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical ''Cabaret'' by Kander and Ebb, which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood's semi-autobiographical novel ''The Berlin Stories'' (1945) as well as John Van Druten's 1951 play ''I Am a Camera'', which was itself adapted from Isherwood's novel. Multiple numbers from the stage score were used for the film, which also featured three other songs by Kander and Ebb, including two written for the adaptation. "Maybe This Time" is a song written by John Kander and Fred Ebb for actress Kaye Ballard. It was later included in the 1972 film ''Cabaret'', where it is sung by the character Sally Bowles, played by Liza Minnelli. The Triple J Hottest 100 is an annual music listener poll hosted by the publicly-funded, national Australian youth radio station, Triple J. Members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite Australian and alternative music of the year in an online poll conducted two weeks prior to the new year. From 1989 to 2018, the 100 most popular songs were counted down from 12 pm on Australia Day.
