Arzu Toker
Arzu Toker (born 1952) is a German-speaking writer, journalist, publicist and translator of Turkish descent. Biography Toker was born in 1952 in Halfeti, Turkey. She moved to Germany in 1974, where she has lived ever since. Early 2007, she and Mina Ahadi were amongst the founders of the Central Council of Ex-Muslims, a German association that aims to represent people who have renounced Islam. Toker opines that Islam is inhumane, contrary to the German Constitution and both misogynous and misandrous: according to her, women in Islam are being "degraded to breeding machines". She warns that in many Dutch cities there are women's and day care centres in the hands of Islamists. By allowing this Islamic pillarisation, the Netherlands are too tolerant in Toker's view. For her, Islam stands for oppression, and one should be allowed to say that, naming Ayaan Hirsi Ali as their example. Ayaan Hirsi Ali (; ; Somali: ''Ayaan Xirsi Cali'':'' Ayān Ḥirsī 'Alī;'' born Ayaan Hirsi Magan, ar, أيان حرسي علي / ALA-LC: ''Ayān Ḥirsī 'Alī'' 13 November 1969) is a Somali-born Dutch-American activist and former politician. She is a critic of Islam and advocate for the rights and self-determination of Muslim women, opposing forced marriage, honor killing, child marriage, and female genital mutilation. She has founded an organisation for the defense of women's rights, the AHA Foundation. Ayaan Hirsi Ali works for the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, the American Enterprise Institute, and was a senior fellow at the Future of Democracy Project at Harvard Kennedy School. ''Der Freitag'' (English: ''The Friday'', stylized in its logo as ''der Freitag'') is a German weekly newspaper established in 1990. It is published in Rhenish format. The place of publication is Berlin. Its publisher and editor-in-chief is Jakob Augstein. History The newspaper was founded on 9 November 1990 with the name ''Freitag''. It had some predecessors, one with the name of ''Sonntag'', which was established in 1946. The paper originally described itself as "the East West Weekly", being established in the year of German reunification, but underwent a substantial rebranding in 2009, including the addition of the definite article (it was previously just Freitag) as well as the new claim "das Meinungsmedium". This followed the 2008 acquisition of the paper by Jakob Augstein.
