Aryeh Eldad
Aryeh Eldad, M.D. ( he, אריה אלדד, born 1 May 1950) is an Israeli physician, politician and former medical officer. Eldad is a professor of medicine, and was head of the plastic surgery and burns unit at the Hadassah Medical Center. He was a member of the Knesset from 2003 to 2013 for the National Union and from 2012 for Otzma LeYisrael, which he co-founded. He was formerly a chief medical officer, and was the senior commander of the Israeli Defense Forces medical corps for 25 years. Biography Eldad was born in Tel Aviv in 1950. As a child, he was a voice actor in radio plays for Israeli state radio. He is married, with five children. Aryeh Nehemkin
Aryeh Nehemkin ( he, אריה נחמקין; 2 November 1925 – 24 November 2021) was an Israeli politician. He served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment from 1981 until 1988, and as Minister of Agriculture between 1984 and 1988. Biography Aryeh Nehemkin was born in Nahalal during the Mandate Era. He was a Haganah member between 1943 and 1948. During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War he served in the IDF, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. Nehemkin was a member of the Economic Committee of the Moshavim Movement in 1959-60, becoming the co-ordinator of its economic section between 1965 and 1967, before serving as the movement's secretary between 1970 and 1981. Aryeh Neier (born April 22, 1937) is an American human rights activist who co-founded Human Rights Watch, served as the president of George Soros's Open Society Institute philanthropy network from 1993 to 2012, had been National Director of the American Civil Liberties Union from 1970 to 1978, and he was also involved with the creation of the group SDS by being directly involved in the group SLID's renaming. Aryeh Levin
Aryeh Levin ( he, אריה לוין; March 22, 1885 - March 28, 1969) was an Orthodox rabbi dubbed the "Father of Prisoners" for his visits to members of the Jewish underground imprisoned in the Central Prison of Jerusalem in the Russian Compound during the British Mandate. He was also known as the "Tzadik ("saint") of Jerusalem" for his work on behalf of the poor and the sick. Aryeh Kasher
Aryeh Kasher ( he, אריה כשר; 1935 – October 26, 2011) was an Israeli academic and writer. He was a professor at Tel Aviv University and winner of the 1990 Bialik Prize for Hebrew literature. His life and his research activity Kasher grew up in Kfar Vitkin, where he graduated from elementary school and high school. In his youth he wrote the radio feuilleton "Hilik Haviv" with his childhood friends and classmates Gad Yaacobi (later a government minister and member of the Knesset) and Micha Gisser (later professor of economics at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico). In the Israeli army, he served at the Nahal. He began his history teaching in Emek Hefer regional school in the early 1960s. Aryeh Moshe Eliyahu Kaplan ( he, אריה משה אליהו קפלן; October 23, 1934 – January 28, 1983) was an American Orthodox rabbi, author, and translator, best known for his Living Torah edition of the Torah. He became well known as a prolific writer and was lauded as an original thinker. His wide-ranging literary output, inclusive of introductory pamphlets on Jewish beliefs and philosophy written at the request of NCSY, is often regarded as a significant factor in the growth of the ''baal teshuva'' movement. Aryeh Leib HaCohen Heller ( 1745 – 1812) ( he, אריה לייב בן יוסף הכהן הלר) was a Rabbi, Talmudist, and Halachist in Galicia. He was known as "the ''Ketzos''" based on his magnum opus, '' Ketzot Hachoshen'', . Aryeh Leib ben Asher Ginzburg (or Wallerstein) ( he, אריה ליב גינסבורג) ( 1695 – June 23, 1785), also known as the Shaagas Aryeh, was a Lithuanian rabbi and author. Life Born in Lithuania, c. 1695, he was a Rabbinical casuist. At one time Ginsburg was rabbi in Pinsk, and then later founded a yeshivah in Minsk. Here however he engaged in hostile dispute with the Gaon Yechiel Halpern, whose supporters eventually drove Ginsburg from the city. Legend has it that the Shaagas Aryeh was run out of the city of Minsk on an oxen cart. Due to the insult, as he left the city he remarked "What, Minsk isn't burning yet?" For years, fires that broke out were attributed by the Jews of Minsk to the curse of the Shaagas Aryeh. Aryeh Gamliel ( he, אריה גמליאל, 11 March 1951 – 6 August 2021) was an Israeli rabbi and politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Shas between 1988 and 2003. Biography Born in Beersheba, Gamliel was educated at a religious high school and a Talmudic College, before working as head of a Talmudic College. He was first elected to the Knesset on Shas' list in 1988. After being re-elected in 1992, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction in Yitzhak Rabin's government, but resigned on 9 September 1993. After retaining his seat again in the 1996 elections, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, a position which he served in (aside from two brief breaks in August 1997 and January/February 1998) until the 1999 elections. Aryeh Tzvi Frumer ( he, אריה צבי פרומר; also spelled ''Fromer'' or ''Frommer''; 18842 May 1943) was a leading Orthodox rabbi, rosh yeshiva, and posek (halachic authority) in 20th-century Poland. Known as the Kozhiglover Rav after his short term as Rav of Koziegłowy, he served as rosh yeshiva of the yeshiva in Sochaczew (Sochatchov) from 1910 to 1914 and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, the premier yeshiva of Poland, from 1934 to 1939. During the German Occupation of Poland, he was incarcerated in the Warsaw Ghetto. In spring 1943 he was deported to the Majdanek concentration camp, where he was murdered. Aryeh Leib Epstein
Aryeh Löb ben Mordecai Ha-Levi Epstein (''Ba'al ha-Pardes'') (1708 – June 26, 1775) was a Polish rabbi born in Grodno. At first he refused to become a rabbi, preferring to devote himself entirely to study, but in 1739 he was forced by poverty to accept the rabbinate of Brestovech, Lithuania, and in 1745 he became rabbi of Königsberg, where he remained until his death. He corresponded with Elijah, Gaon of Vilna, and with Jonathan Eybeschütz, with whom he sided in the quarrel about amulets (see Emden-Eybeschütz Controversy).
