Aryan Football Club (also known as both Aryans and Aryan; formerly Techno Aryan FC) is an Indian professional multi-sports club based in Kolkata, West Bengal, that competes in the Calcutta Football League. The club was founded in 1884 as ''Aryan Sports Club''. It started playing football some years later, making it one of Asia's oldest football clubs. It plays home matches at the East Bengal-Aryan Ground. History Formation and journey (1884–1930) During the age of associations of Bengali nationalism in late 19th century, Sir Dukhiram Majumder, Kalicharan Mitra, Manmatha Ganguly were the pupils of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, who practiced and popularized football. Majumder founded a sporting organization named "Students Union" in Mohun Bagan Villa. East Bengal Ground
The East Bengal Ground, also known as East Bengal–Aryan Ground, is the home stadium of East Bengal and Aryan. The stadium has a capacity of 23,500 people. It is one of the venues for Calcutta Football League. The stadium lies in the Kolkata Maidan area on the northern side of Fort William and it is near the Eden Gardens. The Esplanade metro station on the North-South Corridor of the Kolkata Metro is also nearby. History When East Bengal Club was formed in 1920, they used to play at the Kumortuli Park Ground in the initial days. In 1921, East Bengal Club started playing in the Calcutta Football League Second Division. Most of the matches were held at the Calcutta FC Ground. Mohun Bagan Athletic Club is an Indian professional sports club based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Founded in 1889, its football section is one of the oldest in India and Asia. The club is most notable for its victory over East Yorkshire Regiment in the 1911 IFA Shield final. This victory made Mohun Bagan the first all-Indian side to win a championship over a British side and was a major moment during India's push for independence. Although Mohun Bagan is a multi-sport club, the primary sport since its foundation had been football. They have won the top-flight football league a record five times – the National Football League three times, and the I-League twice. Karuna Bhattacharya
Karuna Sankar Bhattacharya (1909–1979) was a former Indian footballer who represented and captained the India national football team and Mohun Bagan, a football club in Kolkata. The Karuna Bhattacharya Award is given to the best player of Mohun Bagan in every season. On 11 July 2015 Mohun Bagan conferred the "Mohun Bagan Ratna" to Karuna Bhattacharya. He was the first captain of the India national football team during their first officially recognised match in the international tour of Australia against the Australia national football team in 1938. Football career Bhattacharya represented Mohun Bagan for nine consecutive seasons from 1930 onwards. Balaidas Chatterjee
Balaidas Chatterjee (10 March 1900 – 1974) was a former Indian football player and was the first head coach the India national football team during the 1948 Summer Olympics. During his playing days, Chatterjee played for Mohun Bagan in various domestic competitions. On 29 July 2013, it was announced that Chatterjee would receive the Mohun Bagan Ratna posthumously for his achievements while at the club. Playing career Chatterjee was brought up and coached by legendary Dukhiram Majumder, founder of Aryans. He joined then Calcutta Football League side Mohun Bagan AC in 1921 and was part of the "golden era" of the club during British rule in India. Rovers Cup
The Rovers Cup was an annual football tournament held in India, organized by the Western India Football Association. It was the second oldest tournament in India after Durand Cup. History Rovers Cup was incorporated by some British football enthusiasts in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, in 1890, as a form of amusement. After the foundation of Bombay Football Association (BFA) in 1902, the tournament became well organized. Patronised by Justice Russell, the tournament was firstly opened to British teams. Later in 1911, Western India Football Association was founded as a result of merger between BFA and Rovers Cup Committee. After justice Russel became president and P. R. Gostha Pal
Gostha Behari Pal (20 August 1896 – 8 April 1976) was an Indian footballer who played as a defender. He was the first captain of the India national team, played during the 1920s and 1930s. Spending most of his career in Mohun Bagan, Pal is regarded the best player ever to have played for the century-old club. Syed Abdus Samad (footballer)
Syed Abdus Samad ( bn, সৈয়দ আবদুস সামাদ; 6 December 1895 – 2 February 1964) was a British Indian football player from Bengal. Dubbed "Football Jadukor" (), he played for India national football team in 1924 and captained it in 1926. He played as a forward. Samad's football career lasted from 1915–1938. Early life Samad was born in 1895 in Purnia, Bengal Presidency (now in Bihar) in British India. His family later settled in Moulvitola. He left school during his studies in the eighth grade.
