Arwa Damon (born September 19, 1977) is an American journalist who is a senior international correspondent for CNN, based in Istanbul. From 2003, she covered the Middle East as a freelance journalist, before joining CNN in 2006. She is also president and founder of INARA, a humanitarian organization that provides medical treatment to refugee children from Syria. Early life and education Born in Boston, to an American father and Syrian mother, Damon spent her early childhood years in Wayland, Massachusetts. Arwa Bint Mansur Al-Himyari
Arwā bint Manṣūr al-Ḥimyarī ( ar, أروى بنت منصور الحميرى) also known as Umm Mūsā ( ar, ام موسى) was the famous principal wife of Abbasid caliph al-Mansur (r. 754–775) and mother of third Abbasid caliph al-Mahdi. Biography Arwa was the daughter of Mansur al-Himyari, a descendant of the Banu Himyar tribe, whose ancestors ruled Yemen in pre-Islamic times (110 BCE–525 CE). She was Al-Mansur's first wife. Arwa was also known as ''Umm Musa'', her lineage went back to the Kings of Himyarite. She married Abu Ja'far Abdallah ibn Muhammad, the future Abbasid caliph al-Mansur. Arwa or Arawah ( ar, عروى, ''`Arwa'') is a village in Riyadh Province, Saudi Arabia. It is located in the Dawadmi Governorate, north of the Riyadh-Makkah highway, and around west of Riyadh. The village was established in 1918 (1336 AH) at the site of a water source of the same name, by sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Bin Hindi Bin Humaid Alotaibi. Arwa Bint Kurayz
Arwā bint Kurayz ( ar, أَرْوَى بِنْت كُرَيْز) was the mother of Uthman ibn Affan, a companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, and the third of the ''Rashidun'' or "Rightly Guided Caliphs". Ancestry Arwa was the daughter of Kurayz ibn Rabi'ah ibn Habib Abd Shams ibn Abd Manaf, so she was of Banu Abd-Shams, a sub-clan of the tribe of Quraysh. Arwa's mother was Umm Hakim bint Abd al-Muttalib, so Arwa was a cousin of Muhammad. Children Arwa married Affan ibn Abi al-'As and bore him Uthman and Amina. Arwa Othman is a Yemeni writer, journalist, human rights activist and former Minister of Culture (2014–15) in the cabinet of President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. Human Rights Watch has cited Othman as one of the "most outspoken activists calling for human rights and gender equality" during the 2011 Yemeni Revolution. Career Arwa Othman has headed the House of Folklore, a museum in Sana'a. In 2013 she was appointed to the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference, where she headed the Rights and Freedom Committee.
