Arvid Adolf Etholén, or Adolf Karlovich Etolin (russian: Адольф Карлович Этолин; 9 January 1799, Helsinki – 29 March 1876, Elimäki) was a Imperial Russian Navy, naval officer, explorer and Business administration, administrator in the Russian Empire who was employed by the Russian-American Company from July 1818. He was a Swedish-speaking Finn, born in Helsinki in Finland under Swedish rule, Swedish Finland. Etholén first reached Novoarkhangelsk (present-day Sitka, Alaska) in Russian America in the service of the Russian-American Company in 1818, rising to become Chief Manager of the Company between 1840 and 1845. ("Chief Manager" was a position sometimes referred to, though incorrectly, as "Governor"). The Bering Sea (, ; rus, Бе́рингово мо́ре, r=Béringovo móre) is a marginal sea of the Northern Pacific Ocean. It forms, along with the Bering Strait, the divide between the two largest landmasses on Earth: Eurasia and The Americas. Mikhail Tebenkov
Mikhail Dmitriyevich Tebenkov (russian: Михаил Дмитриевич Тебеньков; also Tebenkof; 1802 – April 3, 1872) was a Russian hydrographer and vice admiral of the Imperial Russian Navy. From 1845 to 1850, he served as director of the Russian American Company and the governor of Russian America. He is especially noted for having surveyed and mapped the still little-known coast of Alaska. His ''Atlas of the Northwest Coasts of America: from Bering Strait to Cape Corrientes and the Aleutian Islands'' was published in 1852 and contained 39 engraved maps. Career In 1821, Mikhail Tebenkov graduated from the Naval Cadet Corps School. For the next three years, he served on different ships in the Baltic Sea. Etolin Strait is a strait of the Pacific Ocean in western Alaska, the United States. Geography The strait connects Kuskokwim Bay and the Bering Sea, at . It is long and 48–80 km (30-50) miles wide.
