Arturo Zamora Jiménez
Arturo Zamora Jiménez (born March 30, 1956, in Guadalajara, Jalisco) is a Mexican lawyer and politician affiliated with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). He is running as the PRI candidate to the governorship of Jalisco. Zamora studied law at the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG). He has worked as lawyer and notary public in his native Jalisco. He is a divorced father of three. Political career In 1982 Zamora joined the PRI; since then he has been an active member of that party. In 2003 he was elected municipal president of Zapopan. A local election was held in the Mexican state of Jalisco on Sunday, July 2, 2006. Voters went to the polls to elect, on the local level: *A new Governor of Jalisco to serve for a six-year term. Zapopan
Zapopan () is a city and municipality located in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Part of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, the population of Zapopan city proper makes it the second largest city in the state, very close behind the population of Guadalajara proper. It is best known as being the home of the Virgin of Zapopan, an image of the Virgin Mary which was made in the 16th century. This image has been credited with a number of miracles and has been recognized by popes and even visited by Pope John Paul II. The municipality is also the home of the Centro Cultural Universitario, which contains one of the most important concert venues in Latin America and is the home of the new stadium for the C.D. A ''presidente municipal'' (English: "municipal president") is the chief of government of municipios in Mexico. This title was also used in the Philippines under the Spanish and American colonization; it is comparable to a mayor of the town or city.
