Genre painting (or petit genre), a form of genre art, depicts aspects of everyday life by portraying ordinary people engaged in common activities. One common definition of a genre scene is that it shows figures to whom no identity can be attached either individually or collectively, thus distinguishing it from history paintings (also called ''grand genre'') and portraits. Vicenzo Petrocelli
Vincenzo Petrocelli (6 July 1823 – 2 February 1896) was a Neapolitan artist. Petrocelli was born in Cervaro in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (now in Lazio). He studied under Domenico Morelli, and was active as a painter from about 1850. He was principally a history painter, but also painted portraits and genre scenes. His sons Achille and Arturo were both painters. Petrocelli died in Naples. Vincenzo Gemito made a terracotta bust of him in 1869. Achille Petrocelli (born August 18, 1861 or December 30, 1862) was an Italian painter, mainly of Genre painting, genre themes of his native Naples. He was the son of painter Vicenzo Petrocelli, Vincenzo, and younger brother of painter Arturo Petrocelli. He first studied under his father. He won a prize for a landscape at an exhibition at the Institute of Fine Arts of Naples, where he was mentored by Gabriele Smargiassi and Achille Carrillo.
