Artur Rinne
Artur Rinne (25 September 1910 Narva – 31 January 1984 Tallinn) was an Estonian singer (baritone), theatre director and television director. He is the Estonian singer who has been recorded the most. In 1934 he graduated from Tallinn Conservatory. 1929-1937 he was a choir singer and 1937–1938 ja 1941–1944 a soloist at Estonia Theatre. From 1945 until 1949, he was the director of the Vanemuine theatre in Tartu. 1947–1950 and 1971–1980 he was a soloist at Estonian SSR State Philharmonic. In 1950, he was arrested by Soviet authorities and was placed within the gulag camp system; exiled to the Yertsevo prison camp in Arkhangelsk Oblast of northern Russia. After he was released, from 1956 until 1970 he was a director at Eesti Televisioon and Eesti Telefilm Eesti Telefilm is an Estonian movie studio established in 1956. Narva
Narva, russian: Нарва is a municipality and city in Estonia. It is located in Ida-Viru County, Ida-Viru county, at the Extreme points of Estonia, eastern extreme point of Estonia, on the west bank of the Narva (river), Narva river which forms the Estonia–Russia border, Estonia–Russia international border. With 54,409 inhabitants (as of 2020) Narva is Estonia's third largest city after capital Tallinn and Tartu. In 1944, Narva was nearly completely destroyed during the battles of World War II. During the period of Soviet occupation of Estonia, Soviet occupation (1944–1991), the city’s original native inhabitants were not permitted to return after the war, and immigrant workers from Russia and other parts of the Soviet Union, former USSR were brought in to populate the city. Eesti Televisioon (ETV) ( en, Estonian Television) is an Estonian free-to-air television channel owned and operated by Estonian Public Broadcasting. It made its first broadcast on 19 July 1955. History Eesti Televisioon (''Estonian Television'') was launched on 19 July 1955. Before that, television broadcasts in Estonia could only be received from Moscow. The very first Estonian-language TV presenter was Ofelia Mikk, whose debut was in the 19 July 1955 test broadcast. Her tenure in television was cut short, because she misspoke out of nervousness. The first tenured presenter for the nascent ETV was Ruth Peramets-Püss (1927–2005). To find a presenter, a casting competition was held in 1955, but no suitable person was found. By chance, a film in which she starred, was aired on ETV on the day of the competition, and so she was hired.
