Artists Alliance
Artists Alliance is a defunct non-profit organisation that was based in Ponsonby in Auckland, New Zealand. Artists Alliance provided information, resources, career advice, networks, and advocacy for the visual artists of Aotearoa /New Zealand. Artists Alliance was also part of WeCreate (the copyright coalition of New Zealand) and the Creative Coalition based in Auckland. Artists Alliance received funding from ASB Community Trust, Foundation North, Chartwell Trust, Patillo, Auckland Council, Creative New Zealand, and Pub Charity. They also received income from their members and other stakeholders. History Artists Alliance was established in 1991 as an offshoot of the New Zealand Sculptors Society. The non-profit's goal was to advance the interests of New Zealand's visual arts community as well as to offer individual support to artists within that community. Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA, formerly the Canterbury Society of Arts) is a curated art gallery in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The gallery is administered by the Canterbury Society of Arts (CSA) Charitable Trust. Tracey Tawhiao
Tracey Tawhiao (born 1967) is a New Zealand Maori artist. Her ancestry can be traced to Ngai te Rangi, Whakatohea, Tuwharetoa. Life Tracey Tawhiao is a prolific artist with a wide range of creative expression including poetry, painting, performance and film making. She is well known for using newspaper as the basis of her practise, obscuring passages of text with block colours and maori symbols and motifs, whilst highlighting short headlines or individual words. Tawhiao’s artistic practise arose from time spent with her grandparents at their Matakana Island home. The walls were covered in newspapers and Tawhiao's idea to brighten the place up was to apply symbols and images directly to the walls. Niki Hastings-McFall
Niki Hastings-McFall (born 1959) is a New Zealand jeweller and artist of Samoan and Pākehā descent. She has been described by art historian Karen Stevenson as one of the core members of a group of artists of Pasifika descent who brought contemporary Pacific art to 'national prominence and international acceptance'. Peter Madden (9 August 1904 – 24 February 1976) was a British actor who was born in Ipoh in the Federated Malay States (now Malaysia). Janet Lilo (born 1982) is a visual artist from New Zealand. Lilo was born in 1982 in the Auckland region of New Zealand and is of Tainui, Ngāpuhi, Samoan, and Niue descent. She received an MA in Art and Design from the Auckland University of Technology in 2007. The title of her masters thesis was ''Editing identity: Lost and found in translation''.
