Artis Hicks
Artis Hicks Jr. (born November 28, 1978) is a former American football guard of the National Football League. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2002. He played college football at Memphis. Hicks has also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Washington Redskins, and Cleveland Browns. Professional career Philadelphia Eagles Hicks signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in April 2002 as an undrafted free agent. He made the active roster for the entire 2002 season. In 2003, Hicks got his first start against the New York Giants. In April 2004, Hicks signed a multi-year contract extension with the Eagles. He started at left guard for the 2004 season, including Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005 against the New England Patriots. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. Guards are automatically considered ineligible receivers, so they cannot intentionally touch a forward pass, unless it is to recover a fumble or is first touched by a defender or eligible receiver.
