Arthur James Williams (born November 12, 1964) is an American former professional boxer who competed between 1989 and 2010. He held the IBF cruiserweight title from 1998 to 1999 and challenged twice for the WBA cruiserweight title in 1994. Professional career Williams became professional in 1989 and fell short in his first shot at a major championship title, a 1994 split-decision loss to Orlin Norris for the World Boxing Association Cruiserweight Title. Williams was knocked out in the third round in a rematch with Norris later that year. Arthur James Williams
Lt. Col. Arthur "Art" James Williams, USAAF, AAM, OBE was a pioneering pilot who helped develop aviation in Guyana, then British Guiana. Art Williams arrived in British Guiana in August 1934 piloting an Ireland N-2C Neptune amphibian biplane, (regn. NC183M), powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp, 9-cylinder radial engine, landing on the Demerara River. In 1938, he registered British Guiana Airways Limited. Also known as B.G. Airways, Williams was contracted by the government doing mail delivery and survey work. During World War II volunteered for service, performing anti-submarine patrols until he was called up for military service as Major in the U.S. Air force. Arthur Stanley Williams (1861 in Brighton – 21 November 1938) was an England, English solicitor and amateur astronomer. He dedicated himself to the telescope, telescopic observation of the planets. He also was enthusiastic about yachting, winning the Challenge Cup (yachting), Challenge Cup in 1920. Planetary works Using a 6½ inch reflector on an equatorial mount for most of his work, he published an influential paper in 1896: "On the Drift of Surface Material of Jupiter in Different Latitudes." With this work he greatly strengthened the efforts to systematically observe Jupiter. He also invented the naming of Cloud pattern on Jupiter, belts and zones in 1898. He championed the method of determining the longitude of surface features using their central meridian transit. In 1899 he published his most influential paper: "Periodic Variations in the Colours of the two Equatorial Belts of Jupiter." Arthur Lukyn Williams (1853–1943) was a Hebrew New Testament scholar at Jesus College, Cambridge. He was also a Christian apologist active in Christian mission to Jews. Life A. Arthur Williams (Elevator Bandit)
Arthur Williams (September 26, 1946 – July 11, 2010) was an American career criminal who achieved early notoriety as New York City's "Elevator Bandit", who perpetrated a string of armed robberies in apartment buildings across Manhattan, mostly to support a heroin addiction. Given a three-year term in prison, Williams was released after two years. During the 34 years from 1975 to 2009, Williams spent 33 of those years in prison, with the exception of a two-month period after his release from jail when he went on a drug-fueled crime spree in 1980 that was widely publicized in the media. In 2010, he drove from his home in Alabama to New York City, where he conducted an armed robbery of a Manhattan boutique while using a cane and an oxygen tank and wielding a gun which he fired in the store. The Ven. Arthur Charles Williams (8 July 1899 – 23 September 1974) was an Anglican priest: the Archdeacon of Bodmin from 1962 to 1969. Arthur Williams (trade Unionist)
Arthur Williams (born 1899) was a British trade unionist. Williams worked in Wallsend as a driller in a shipyard. He joined the Ship Constructive and Shipwrights' Association during World War I. In 1940, he began working full-time for the union, and also won election to its executive committee. In 1948, the union's assistant general secretary, John Willcocks, was elected as general secretary, and Williams won the election to become his assistant. In 1957, when Willcocks retired, Williams overwhelmingly won the election to replace him, taking 3,997 votes, while his four opponents took fewer than 1,000 votes between them. As general secretary, Williams immediately led the union in a Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions strike, calling for an increase in wages. This was successful, although the increase was smaller than requested. Employment in the shipyards was in decline, and the union's membership also fell.
