Buckingham Land District, Tasmania
Buckingham Land District is one of the twenty land districts of Tasmania which are part of the Lands administrative divisions of Tasmania. It was formerly Buckingham County, one of the 18 counties of Tasmania and one of the first eleven proclaimed in 1836 and is bordered to the north by the River Derwent, and to the south by the Huon River. It includes Bruny Island. Hobart is located in the county. It was named after the then county of England. An earlier Buckingham County existed from 24 September 1804 until 1813 as an administrative division whilst Van Diemen's Land was administered as two units. It was defined as all of Van Diemen's Land south of the 42nd parallel (between Trial Harbour and Friendly Beaches, and governed by David Collins. Cornwall County occupied the remainder of the island. Gordon River
The Gordon River is a major perennial river located in the central highlands, south-west, and western regions of Tasmania, Australia. Course and features The Gordon River rises below Mount Hobhouse in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park draining the eastern slopes of the King William Range. The river flows generally south and to the west of the Gordon Range before flowing west through the Gordon Gap and spilling into Lake Gordon, an impounded reservoir created by damming the Gordon at the Gordon Dam. Together with water fed from Lake Pedder, the principal purpose of the reservoir is for generation of hydro-electricity at the Gordon Power Station. Flowing from east to west through Lake Gordon, the river continues west, passing through the Gordon Splits, a series of gorges once considered impassable until 1958 when Olegas Truchanas, a conservationist and nature photographer, was the first person to navigate the Gordon River in a kayak. Huon River
The Huon River is a perennial river located in the south-west and south-east regions of Tasmania, Australia. At in length, the Huon River is the fifth-longest in the state, with its course flowing east through the fertile Huon Valley and emptying into the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, before flowing into the Tasman Sea. Location and features The Huon River rises below Junction Hill in the Southwest National Park with much of its upper catchment drawn from the Marsden Range and associated peaks including Mount Anne, Mount Bowes and Mount Wedge. Arthur Range (Tasmania)
The Arthur Range is a mountain range in the South West Wilderness, located in South West Tasmania, south-west Tasmania, Australia. The range is broken into two main sections, the Western Arthurs and the Eastern Arthurs. Both sections of the range are popular Backpacking (wilderness), overnight bushwalking destinations, generally in summer. History The Arthur Range lies in the traditional country of the South-West Nation of the Aboriginal Tasmanian people and the traditional name is Loinnekumme (LOINNE.KUM.ME). The range was renamed by George Augustus Robinson for George Arthur, Governor George Arthur after Robinson climbed Mount Frederick (now Mount Hayes (Tasmania), Mount Hayes) in March 1830. In December 2018, a Par Avion plane being piloted by Nikita Williams crashed into the ranges. There was poor visibility at the time.
