Arthur Furer
Arthur Furer (28 March 1924 – 8 November 2013) was a Swiss musician and composer. Life Born in Worb, Furer studied at the University of Bern and was solo violist in the and violinist in the Bern Symphony Orchestra and among others in the chamber ensemble of Radio Bern. on ''Musinfo'', La Base de Données de la Musique Suisse. From 1952 to 1988, he was music teacher at the Municipal Seminar Marzili and directed choirs. In 1955, he was rewarded at the 6th G. B. Viotti "Concorso Internazionale di Musica". In 1966, he was awarded the Pro-Arte Foundation Prize for his own composition, and in 1984 he was awarded the Music Prize of the Canton of Bern. Worb
Worb is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Worb is first mentioned around 1130-46 as ''Worw''. The oldest traces of settlements in the area include scattered neolithic artifacts, Hallstatt grave mounds in the Buchliwald and a La Tene cemetery at Rohrmoos-Stockeren. Other prehistoric graves have been found in the Gschneitwald. A Roman estate from the 2nd and 3rd centuries and a Roman grave have also been discovered. During the Early Middle Ages there was a small settlement that had a cemetery at Vielbringen. The Freiherr de Worvo was first mentioned in 1127, a couple of years before the village appeared in the record. By the second half of the 13th century the Freiherr von Kien had inherited village, lands and Worb Castle. The Bern Symphony Orchestra (Berner Symphonie-Orchester) is a Swiss orchestra based in Bern. The orchestra primarily gives concerts at the ''Kursaal'' in Bern, and also acts as the orchestra of the Bern Theatre, for opera and dance performances. The orchestra is under the auspices of the ''Stiftung Berner Symphonieorchester'', and receives government funding from the federal government of Switzerland and the canton and city of Bern.
