Arthur Blennerhassett (1687–1758)
Arthur Blennerhassett KC (1687 – 3 January 1758) was an Anglo-Irish lawyer, politician and judge. He is remembered mainly for killing John St. Leger in a duel.Ball pp.207-8 He was the only son of the politician and lawyer Robert Blennerhassett of Clonmel, County Tipperary, and Alice Osborne, daughter of Sir Thomas Osborne, 5th Baronet and Katherine Butler, and widow of Thomas Warter. He was at school in Dublin and graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 1708. The same year he entered the Middle Temple. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1714,Hart p.164 made King's Counsel in 1728,Hart p.164 and served as Prime Serjeant in 1742. In 1727 Blennerhassett was elected to the Irish House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Tralee. He was raised to the bench as a justice of the Court of King's Bench (Ireland) in 1743 and served until his death in 1758. Arthur Blennerhassett (1719–1799)
Arthur Blennerhassett (19 February 1719 – 8 June 1799) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Blennerhassett was the son of John Blennerhassett (1691–1775), John Blennerhassett and Jane Denny. He was elected to serve in the Irish House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Tralee (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Tralee between 1743 and 1761. In 1775 he was elected as the MP for County Kerry (Parliament of Ireland constituency), County Kerry, sitting until 1783. Arthur Blennerhassett (1799–1843)
Arthur Blennerhassett (1 January 1799 – 23 January 1843) was an Irish politician. He was born the son of Arthur and Dorcas née Twiss Blennerhassett and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He was appointed High Sheriff of Kerry for 1821. In the 1832 elections for Tralee he fought a duel with the Liberal candidate Maurice O'Connell (MP). Neither was hurt and O'Connell went on to win the seat. Blennerhassett later served in British Parliament as Member of Parliament (MP) for Kerry from 1837 to 1841. He died whilst staying in Nantes, France aged only 44. He had married Frances Grady in 1821; they lived at Ballyseedy and had 9 children. He was a cousin of Sir William Godfrey, 3rd Baronet. Blennerhassett Baronets
The Blennerhassett Baronetcy of Blennerville in the County of Kerry, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 22 September 1809 for Rowland Blennerhassett, the member of a family that was originally settled in Cumberland, England, and subsequently at Frenze, Norfolk, and Barsham, Suffolk. Members of the Blennerhassett family represented Carlisle in almost every Parliament from the reign of Richard II to the reign of James I. This branch of the family settled in County Kerry during the reign of James I and its members frequently represented County Kerry and Tralee in the Irish House of Commons. The first Baronet's son, the second Baronet, was High Sheriff of Kerry in 1823. He was succeeded by his son, the third Baronet. He served as High Sheriff of County Kerry in 1820.
