Arter (art Center)
Arter is a contemporary art museum in the Dolapdere district of Istanbul, Turkey. A subsidiary of the Vehbi Koç Foundation, Arter was opened in 2010 with the aim of providing a sustainable infrastructure for producing and exhibiting contemporary art. Following eight years of operation during which it contributed to the visibility of contemporary art with a programme featuring exhibitions, publications, talks, performances and workshops at its venue on İstiklal Avenue, Istiklal Street, Arter moved to its new home in the Dolapdere district of Istanbul in September 2019. At its new building, Arter continues expanding the range of its activities beyond exhibitions to performances and events across many disciplines. Arter presented 59 exhibitions and provided support for the production of over 240 artworks between May 2010 and November 2022. Vehbi Koç Foundation
The Vehbi Koç Foundation ( tr, Vehbi Koç Vakfı) is one of the biggest Non-governmental organization, non-governmental charitable organizations in Turkey. It was established on January 17, 1969 by the Turkish entrepreneur and philanthropist Vehbi Koç (1901-1996). The foundation is active in the fields of education, healthcare and culture. The board of directors is currently chaired by Semahat Arsel, the eldest daughter of Vehbi Koç. Executive committee's president is Suna Koç, another daughter. Erdal Yıldırım is the managing director of the foundation. The headquarters of the foundation is located at Nakkaştepe in Kuzguncuk, Istanbul. Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook
Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook (born 1957) is a Thai artist who works primarily with film and video. She currently lives in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Early life and education Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook was born in Trat, Thailand, in 1957. She received a Fine Art degree from Silpakorn University, Bangkok, in 1986, and Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig in Germany. Canan Tolon
Canan Tolon (born 1955) is a Turkish-born artist who now lives and works in Emeryville, California. Tolon works in the mediums of printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. She has exhibited internationally in Ankara, Istanbul, Kiev, London, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland and San Francisco. Yee I-Lann
Yee I-Lann (born 1971) is a Malaysian contemporary artist known for her works using photography, collage, film, collaborative weaving, and everyday objects. Her practice examines power, colonialism, and neocolonialism in Southeast Asia to explore the impact of historic memory on social experience. Since 2018, Yee has been working collaboratively with sea-based and land-based indigenous communities in Sabah, Malaysia. Yee currently lives and works in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Vertical Submarine
Vertical Submarine is a collective group of artists based in Singapore. The group, founded by Justin Loke, Joshua Yang and Fiona Koh was formed in 2003 and the name was taken from a word ''subvert'' that is rotated to be ''vert-sub'' and expanded to form ''Vertical Submarine''. The group has been appearing in exhibitions of intricate installations involving everyday objects, text and an acquired sense of humor. Mella Jaarsma
Mella Jaarsma (born Emmeloord, 1960) is an artist originally from the Netherlands but now residing in Indonesia. She spent her childhood in the Netherlands, where she also studied at the Minerva Academy of Visual Arts in Groningen. Jaarsma's work comments on social and political issues within Indonesian society, mainly: discrimination, racialism, minorities and identity. Her most well known work are body-covering shelters made out of unexpected materials. For example, frog skins, squirrels, bats, snakes and chickens are employed to create a wearable piece. The garment symbolises protection, and visually represents fear or a need for a 'security blanket'. Melati Suryodarmo
Melati Suryodarmo (born 12 July 1969) is an Indonesian durational performance artist. Her physically demanding performances make use of repetitive motions and often last for many hours, sometimes reaching "a level of factual absurdity". Suryodarmo has performed and exhibited throughout Europe and Asia as well as in North America. Born in Surakarta, she attended Padjadjaran University, graduating with a degree in international relations before moving to Germany. She lived there for 20 years, studying performance art at the Braunschweig University of Art with Butoh choreographer Anzu Furukawa and performance artist Marina Abramović. Lee Wen (; 1957–2019) was a Singapore-based performance artist who shaped the development of performance art in Asia. He worked on the notion of identity, ethnicity, freedom, and the individual's relationship to communities and the environment.
