Artemus (also, Nip and Tuck) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Knox County, Kentucky, Knox County, Kentucky, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census the population was 590. Geography The community is in central Knox County, southeast of Barbourville, Kentucky, Barbourville, the county seat. It sits on the north side of the Cumberland River. Kentucky Route 225 passes through the center of town, leading northwest to Barbourville and south to Kentucky Route 92 in Bell County, Kentucky, Bell County. Artemus Ward "Nick" Allen (September 14, 1888 – October 16, 1939) was a catcher in Major League Baseball. He played for the Buffalo Buffeds/Blues, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds. Allen became a minor league baseball manager after his playing career was over and earned the nickname "Roarin' Nick" for his altercations with umpires.
