Art Kirkendoll
Arthur "Art" E. Kirkendoll (born November 3, 1951) is an American politician and former Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate. He represented District 7 from November 14, 2011, when West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin appointed him to fill the vacancy caused by Tomblin's resignation from the seat in order to assume the position of governor, until January 7, 2017. He was defeated for reelection in the 2016 primary election by Richard Ojeda. Education Kirkendoll attended Marshall University. West Virginia's 7th Senate District
West Virginia's 7th Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republican Mike Stuart and Republican Rupie Phillips. All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms. Geography District 7 is based in Southern West Virginia, covering all of Boone, Lincoln, and Logan Counties and parts of Mingo and Wayne Counties. Communities in the district include Wayne, Lavalette, Hamlin, Alum Creek, Madison, Logan, Chapmanville, Mallory, Mount Gay-Shamrock, and Gilbert Creek. West Virginia Legislature
The West Virginia Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of West Virginia. A bicameral legislative body, the legislature is split between the upper Senate and the lower House of Delegates. It was established under Article VI of the West Virginia Constitution following the state's split from Virginia during the American Civil War in 1863. As with its neighbor and former constituent Virginia General Assembly, the legislature's lower house is also referred to as a "House of Delegates." Earl Ray Tomblin (born March 15, 1952) is an American politician who served as the 35th governor of West Virginia from 2011 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the West Virginia Senate from 1980 to 2011 and as president of the West Virginia Senate from 1995 to 2011. Tomblin became acting governor in November 2010 following Joe Manchin's election to the U.S. Senate. Sammy Dale Dalton (born August 29, 1951) is an American educator and politician who served in both houses of the West Virginia Legislature. First elected to the House of Delegates as a 23-year old graduate student at Marshall University, he was elevated to the state senate in 1990. In 1994, his predecessor, Lloyd G. Jackson II, ran again and defeated him in the Democratic primary, after which Dalton returned to the House for two more terms.
