Art Jewelry Forum (AJF) is a nonprofit international organization founded in 1997 that advocates for the field of contemporary art jewelry through education, discourse, publications, grants, and awards. Publications Art Jewelry Forum publishes online articles as well as in print books. AJF's online articles cover historical pieces and movements, theoretical interpretations of work, and exhibition reviews. Contributors for the online articles include staff writers as well as professionals in the field. Printed books from Art Jewelry Forum include ''Geography'' (exhibition catalog), ''AJF Best of Interviews'', and ''Show and Tales''. Art Jewelry
Art jewelry is one of the names given to jewelry created by studio craftspeople. As the name suggests, art jewelry emphasizes creative expression and design, and is characterized by the use of a variety of materials, often commonplace or of low economic value. In this sense, it forms a counterbalance to the use of "precious materials" (such as gold, silver and gemstones) in conventional or fine jewelry, where the value of the object is tied to the value of the materials from which it is made. Art jewelry is related to studio craft in other media such as glass, wood, plastics and clay; it shares beliefs and values, education and training, circumstances of production, and networks of distribution and publicity with the wider field of studio craft. Areta Wilkinson
Areta Rachael Wilkinson (born 1969) is a New Zealand jeweller. Education In 1991 Wilkinson received a Diploma in Craft Design and in 2001 she completed a Bachelor of Design from Unitec Institute of Technology, where she studied under the esteemed Pauline Bern. In 2014 she completed a PhD in Fine Arts at Te Pūtahi-ā-Toi School of Māori Art, Knowledge and Education at Massey University in Palmerston North. Kiff Slemmons
Kiff Slemmons (born 1944) is a contemporary American metalsmith. She received her B.A. in Art and French at the University of Iowa, but is primarily known for her career in jewelry and metals. Slemmons currently resides in Chicago, Illinois. Her work is collected by many notable museums and personalities, including the late Robin Williams. Childhood and early life Kiff Slemmons was born in Maxton, North Carolina, but grew up in Iowa. The child of a pharmacist and newspaper publisher, Slemmons developed a love of the printed word and the Linotype early in life. The Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum is a public art museum located on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Lisa Gralnick (born 1956) is an American contemporary metalsmith, studio jeweler and academic.Smithsonian Archives of American Art, Oral Interview She works in the field of craft and art jewelry. Fuller Craft Museum is an arts and crafts museum in the city of Brockton, Massachusetts, 25 miles south of Boston. It receives 20,000 visitors a year. Nancy Lee Worden (November 29, 1954 – February 17, 2021) was an American artist and metalsmith. Her jewelry art is known for weaving together personal narratives with current politics. She received many awards and honors. Worden exhibited internationally, and her work is represented in collections around the world, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Lisa Walker (born 1967) is a contemporary New Zealand jeweller. Education and training in New Zealand Born in Wellington in 1967, Walker graduated from Otago Polytechnic, Dunedin, in 1988 with a Certificate in Craft Design. In Dunedin her tutors included German-trained jeweller Georg Beer and Swiss-trained jeweller Kobi Bosshard.
