Appointed on February 3, 2022, De La Cruz previously represented the same district from September 2020 to January 2021. Early life and education Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, De La Cruz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in university studies from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Science in management and human relations from the University of Phoenix. Career De La Cruz served as an employee of the Public Employees Retirement Association of New Mexico for 46 years. He has also operated a small business. In September 2020, De La Cruz was appointed to the New Mexico House of Representatives after the resignation of Patricio Ruiloba. Brittney Barreras is an American politician who served as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives for the 12th district from January 2021 to February 2022. As an independent candidate, Barreras defeated incumbent Democratic write-in candidate Art De La Cruz, who had been nominated to the seat in September 2020 after the resignation of Patricio Ruiloba. However, one week after the general election, Barreras announced that she was joining the Democratic Party, saying that it would have been difficult to win re-election as an Independent. The ''Albuquerque Journal'' is the largest newspaper in the U.S. state of New Mexico. History The ''Golden Gate'' newspaper was founded in June 1880. In the fall of 1880, the owner of the ''Golden Gate'' died and Journal Publishing Company was created. Journal Publishing changed the paper name to ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' and issued its first edition of the ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' on October 14, 1880. The ''Daily Journal'' was first published in Old Town Albuquerque, but in 1882 the publication moved to a single room in the so-called new town (or expanded Albuquerque) at Second and Silver streets near the railroad tracks. The paper is distributed free to homes and businesses in Las Cruces and is available by paid subscription elsewhere. History The Las Cruces Bulletin weekly newspaper was founded in 1969 by Ken Dahlstrom. First issue was published on December 4, 1969. On March 31, 1983, Dahlstrom sold the paper to Steve Klinger who converted the format from broadsheet to tabloid.
