Arshad Ali Khan
Arshad Ali Khan is an Indian classical singer belonging to the Kirana gharana (singing style). Early life and education He descends from the family lineage of Abdul Wahid Khan and Abdul Karim Khan, the founders of Kirana Gharana. He got education in music from his maternal uncles Mashkoor Ali Khan and Mubarak Ali Khan. At the age of 9, he was described as the biggest sensation of Sawai Gandharva Samelan, following his performance on a special invitation by Bhimsen Joshi on the occasion of his 75th birthday. Hindustani Classical Music
Hindustani classical music is the classical music of northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. It may also be called North Indian classical music or, in Hindustani, ''shastriya sangeet'' (). It is played in instruments like the violin, sitar and sarod. Its origins from the 12th century CE, when it diverged from Carnatic music, the classical tradition in South India. Hindustani classical music arose in the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, a period of great influence of Perso-Arabic arts in the subcontinent, especially the Northern parts. Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan is an Hindustani classical music, Indian classical singer and teacher from the Kirana gharana, Kirana musical style. As the grandson of Abdul Karim Khan, a founder of the Kirana style, he is a descendant of the gharana's family lineage. He was educated by his father, sarangi player Shakoor Khan. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (born 9 October 1945) is an Indian classical ''sarod'' player, best known for his clear and fast ekhara taans. Khan was born into a classical musical family and has performed internationally since the 1960s. He was awarded India's second highest civilian honor Padma Vibhushan in 2001. Kirana Gharana
Kirana gharana is one of the Indian classical khyal gharanas, and is concerned foremost with perfect intonation of notes (swara). Singing style The central concern of the Kirana style is swara, or individual notes, in particular precise tuning and expression of notes. In the Kirana Gayaki (singing style), the individual notes (swaras) of the raga are not just random points in the scale, but independent realms of music capable of horizontal expansion. Emotional ''pukars'' in the higher octaves form a part of the musical experience. Another unique feature of this gharana is the intricate and ornate use of the ''sargam taan'' (weaving patterns with the notations themselves) introduced by Abdul Karim Khan under influence from the Carnatic classical style. Bhimsen Joshi
Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi BR (; ; 4 February 1922 – 24 January 2011), also known by the honorific prefix Pandit, was one of the greatest Indian vocalists from Karnataka, in the Hindustani classical tradition. He is known for the '' khayal'' form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music (''bhajans'' and '' abhangs''). Joshi belongs to the Kirana gharana tradition of Hindustani Classical Music. He is noted for his concerts, and between 1964 to 1982 Joshi toured Afghanistan, Italy, France, Canada and USA. Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival
The Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav (formerly known as the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav and simply known as Sawai) is an annual Indian Classical music festival held in Pune since 1953. The festival is hosted by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal (ASPM) and initiated by Bhimsen Joshi as a memorial music conference commemorating the life and work of Joshi's guru, Sawai Gandharva, the festival's namesake. While Joshi was leading the organisation of the festival, performing artists received personal invitations from him to perform at it. Saptak Annual Festival Of Music
The Saptak Annual Festival of Music is an annual thirteen-day Indian classical music festival held in Ahmedabad, India. It is organised by Saptak School of Music and takes place January first to the thirteenth every year, and is attended by hundreds of people. History The festival started in 1980 by Nandan Mehta and his wife Manju Mehta, Rupande Shah, Bharti Parikh and D.D. Trivedi, with the inauguration by Pandit Ravi Shankar and Pandit Kishan Maharaj. The one-day event in 1980 expanded to the performance of more than 130 musicians in 15 sessions spread across 13 days by 2010. The festival features both emerging talents and established performers.
