Arsene James
Arsene Vigil James (30 October 1944 – 29 July 2018) was a Saint Lucian politician and former Leader of the Opposition. He represented the Micoud South constituency for the United Workers' Party. James became Opposition Leader when UWP leader Morella Joseph did not win her seat, in the December 2001 elections. He served as the Minister for Education and Culture under the government of Prime Minister John Compton from 2006 to 2011. Saint Lucia ( acf, Sent Lisi, french: Sainte-Lucie) is an island country of the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean. The island was previously called Iouanalao and later Hewanorra, names given by the native Arawaks and Caribs, two Amerindian peoples. Part of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent (Antilles), Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of with an estimated population of over 180,000 people as of 2022. The national capital is the city of Castries. Micoud
Micoud District is one of 10 districts (formerly called quarters) of the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia The seat of this district is the town of Micoud inside this district. According to the 2002 census, the population of the district was 16,143 people. The final 2010 Census recorded a population of 16,284 in Micoud District. A former quarter, Praslin Quarter, was merged into Micoud Quarter. It was not enumerated separately in the 2010 Census. The 2001 Census shows Praslin as part of Micoud District. The Micoud District is divided into two electoral constituencies represented in the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia. The United Workers Party is a conservative political party in Saint Lucia currently led by former Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet, who defeated former Prime Minister Stephenson King in a July 28, 2013 leadership election. Morella Joseph
Dr. Morella Joseph is a politician in the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia and was reportedly the first woman in its history to become president of a political party. After the unexpected resignation of Vaughan Lewis, Joseph was elected to the position in October 2000 and became the leader of Saint Lucia's United Workers' Party. In the elections of the same year, Morella she ran for a seat in the Parliament of Saint Lucia but was defeated by the candidate of the Saint Lucia Labour Party. Micoud, Saint Lucia
Micoud is a village of around 2,700 inhabitants on the south-east coast of Saint Lucia in the Micoud District. It was named after Baron de Micoud, who was the French governor of Saint Lucia in the 18th century. Sir John George Melvin Compton, (29 April 1925 – 7 September 2007) was a Saint Lucian politician who became the first Prime Minister upon independence in February 1979. Having led Saint Lucia under British rule from 1964 to 1979, Compton served as Prime Minister three times: briefly in 1979, again from 1982 to 1996, and from 2006 until his death in 2007.
