Vulcan, Alberta
Vulcan is a town in southern Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by Vulcan County. It is on Highway 23, midway between the cities of Calgary and Lethbridge. The population of the town was 1,917 in 2016. Now known as the "Official Star Trek Capital of Canada", Vulcan has a tourism building made to look like a landed space station, a statue of the original series ''Enterprise'', and other ''Star Trek'' themed attractions. Anastasia is an unincorporated community in Vulcan County, Alberta, Canada that was once a small Doukhobor settlement. The settlement was located approximately east of Arrowwood on Township Road 205. It may have been named after Princess Anastasia Romanov. History In 1924 following the death of Peter Verigin, many Doukhobors of the Brilliant, British Columbia settlement claimed Anastasia F. Holuboff be the successor to Peter. A majority of the Doukhobors community disagreed and declared that the Verigin's son should become the new leader for the settlement. Mossleigh is a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada within Vulcan County. It is located on Highway 24, approximately southeast of Calgary. Demographics The population of Mossleigh according to the 2007 municipal census conducted by Vulcan County is 53. Services Mossleigh has a community hall, gas station/convenience store, a motel, and a restaurant. The Mossleigh community school built in 1953 was closed in 1988 and is now privately owned. The former two room high school is also privately owned. Attractions Mossleigh is home to a Lions Club campground, while Aspen Crossing, located one kilometre west of Mossleigh, features a rail dining car with dinner theatre, a rail station with a gift store and a garden centre, and a campground with caboose cabins.
