Rethel
Rethel () is a commune in the Ardennes department in northern France. It is a sub-prefecture and third-most important city and economic center in the department. It is situated on the river Aisne, near the northern border of Champagne and 37 km from Reims. Its inhabitants are called ''Rethélois''. History According to legend, the city was founded by Julius Caesar, who established a camp on the site of the city during his campaigns. The parents of St. Arnulf of Metz were said to have given all they owned ''in villa Reistete'' (in the city of Rethel) to St. Remigius, bishop of Reims, so that their prayers for a child would be answered. The city belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Remi and was administered by its advocati. One of them, Manasses I, became the first Count of Rethel. Auboncourt-Vauzelles
Auboncourt-Vauzelles () is a commune in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region of north-eastern France. Geography Auboncourt-Vauzelles is located some 38 km south-west of Charleville-Mézières and 16 km north-east of Rethel. The A34 autoroute passes through the north-west of the commune but the nearest exit is Exit 14 some 6 km north of the commune. Access to the commune is by the D 951 road from Novy-Chevrières in the south-west which passes through the north-west of the commune and the hamlet of Vauzelles as it goes north to join the A34 autoroute at Exit 14. The D 14 road comes from Corny-Machéroménil in the north-west which passes through Vauzelles and the centre of the commune before continuing south to Faux. Access to the village is by small roads that run off the D 14 - the ''Chemin d'Auboncourt'' and the ''Chemin de la Fontaine''. Barby () is a commune in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region of northern France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Barbyons'' or ''Barbyonnes''. Banogne-Recouvrance () is a Communes of France, commune in the Ardennes (department), Ardennes Departments of France, department in the Grand Est region of northern France. Geography Banogne-Recouvrance is located some 20 km north-west of Rethel and 33 km east of Laon. Access to the commune is by the D30 road from Saint-Quentin-le-Petit in the north-west which passes through the centre of the commune and the village and continues south-east to Condé-lès-Herpy. The D35 goes from the village to Le Thour in the south-west. The D135 goes north from the village to join the D2 north of the commune. Apart from the village at the centre of the commune there is the hamlet of Recouvrance to the east. The commune is entirely farmland.
